how long can a coin styan in a childs body?

My 2 year old put a dime in her mouth(tomorrow will be 1 week). I got scared when she began to throw up right away but the coin didn't come out. I called the hospital and they told me to call her doctor right away. He had another doctor on call for him so they ask me to watch her overnight and if she was having problems breathing to bring her in. On Friday(4 days after) it still had not came out but she was having blooding stools. The doctor sent her for X-ray and it was still up very high. The doctor ask me to wait one more week, by then it will be 1 week and 3 days. She still has the bloody stools. Has this happen to anyone? If so how long does it take to come out? If it don't come out what will they do to get it out? Any info will help,

Thanks

There is no telling. An average person usually passes normal matter within a couple days. Since the dime won't break down, it may take longer to work through the system. Do as your doctor says, and watch for any more symptoms. lf it won't come out, they may need to remove it surgically (not a huge operation).

I understand why you are scared, but this type of thing happens a lot. The best thing you can do is ask your doctor/clinic, not the internet.
