The U.S. is a secular country, meaning not pertaining to or connected with religion. This has been stated by those that created it. This is why the church and state part is in the First Amendment. In the U.S. you have the right to believe in one god, many gods, or no god. Thomas Jefferson called it a wall of separation between church and state, many times.
Interesting side note: The reason this separation of church and state was put in there is because of the efforts by the Christian Fundamentalists to try to make the U.S. a Christian state when the Constitution was being written. Our founding fathers wanted to be sure that would never happen.

America will always be a secular country even if Christianity is the majority. There is no official religion.

Its supposed to be a secular country from what I read in the constitution.
But religious freaks have the majority at the moment. Its a good thing that atheism is slowly but steadily rising in the states.

No, its a country where we are SUPPOSED to have freedom of religion, which must also include the freedom to NOT have one.
Our founding fathers came here because they didn't want to be forced to worship a particular way, and they spoke of freedom for all to worship how they wanted.
This is NOT a "christian nation", and never has been. You may be a majority, but you are not our rulers.

Today pretty much, yeah. The vagueness of spirituality of a few decades ago is waning. Today there are skeptics and hardcore fools, so its becoming that way.
Its becoming the Bill Mahers versus the sarah palins, which is better in the long run.
Thank god, right? LOL

The folks who founded it envisioned a spiritually enlightened country but the Christians and Catholics soon took back over and the dreams of freedom became just a dream again.
