The whole world hates liberals. This is no surprise.
And it's not about liberal policies, sad as they are. Liberals are hated because they're vile. The whole world looks at them and the way they treat other people and the world is revolted.

I hate to break it to you, I know this won't go over well, and I say this with all due respect, but you have a misunderstanding of the current political climate in Canada right now.
Obviously it is subject to opinion, I don't deny that, however by simply saying that Canada "is going Conservative" is incorrect. The country has moved more to the right over the past five years, but not as much as you guys make it sound.
The Conservatives only had just under 40% of the vote, but ended up with a majority government based on some inherit flaws in the first-past-the-post system. 60% of the country voted for other parties, including a large chunk for the left-wing NDP and left-leaning Liberals. If you think the Democrats are left wing in the US, you should take a look at the NDP. I wouldn't hesitate to call them pretty close to "true" socialists.
The election was marred with several surprises that were once in a lifetime events. The Liberal party, which for reference is not the same "Liberal" as you guys refer to, utterly collapsed. They are a center party, or at least try to be. This was due to numerous factors, that I won't go into. The Bloc also collapsed, going from ~50 seats to a mere 4. The Bloc, by the way, is a separatist party for the French speaking province of Quebec. With the Bloc pushed aside, Quebec (Canada's second largest province in population, ergo tones of seats in the House of Commons) swung left hard. The NDP swept the province and the "orange crush" as some were calling it, bled over to other parts of the country. This lead to the dreaded vote split where some traditional Liberal party voters switched over to the NDP, causing the Conservative candidate to go right up the middle in numerous ridings (A Canadian electoral district is called a riding, for those unaware of Canadian politics). For example, the NDP and Liberal candidate would have 10,000 votes each, but the Conservative candidate would have 11,000 votes. The Liberals probably should have won the riding, but because some of their voters went to the NDP, they lost. I counted 13 ridings in Ontario alone that could have turned out differently if the vote split was not present.
The other byproduct that I have also seen is traditional Liberal voters going right. In Toronto, Canada's largest city, most voters describe themselves as "small c" voters, meaning they consider themselves centre-right. They usually vote for the Liberal party, but with the NDP on the rise, the risk of an NDP led them to vote Conservative to help crush any chance of an NDP minority government.
If you made it through the post, congratulations. I hope when picking the best answer you don't just pick along party lines and ideology but the most informative post for you. I'm not going to debate you on Liberal policies as everyone has a different definition of what that means, especially when talking about different countries. This is my opinion on why the Canadian results turned out like they did, you are welcome to take or disregard it.

Harper and his cons only received 39.6% of the popular vote. The country is no more conservative than it was before the election, but it has demonstrated the problem with the "first past the post" electoral system when there is more than two parties running and vote splitting occurs. In this election there were five main parties with four of those parties vying for the left wing vote. What you fail to realize is that the socialist democrat party, the NDP, made the largest gains of all the parties, which indicates that Canada is shifting left, not right.

A good friend of mine In Toronto thinks this is the best thing to ever happen to Canada...she has watched how the Liberals have destroyed our country, also.

interesting, isn't it, that we have not seen a single story about this recent election in the drive-by media...it was a stomping...just as our last election was, where over 700 Republicans were elected around the country..why do we need a liberal media...they just do not tell the story or the truth...

liberal policies are the policies of slow comfortable death for any country.
Conservative policies are the policies of tough, uncomfortable success.

Their conservatives would be our liberals. Our conservatives are clowns and obstructionists. You know not of what you speak.
