They'll probably switch it over to December 21st instead.

The next date is supposed to be October 21 or something. After that the next is 12/21/12. Before now it was 5/5/2000.

There seems to be a new rumor going around about a "comet hitting the earth". The only connection I can make with an astronomical event is this one:

Asteroid 2005 YU55 is expected to pass about 0.85 lunar distances (85% of the distance to the moon) in early November of this year.
I think some people have turned this into "a killer comet is going to hit earth".
