what could these symptoms mean in a 54 year old male?

rapid heart rate, weight loss of 13 pounds in 2 months, excess sweating, and feeling run down. His dr put him on another blood pressure pill, and wants him to get blood work done next week. He thinks it's kidney problems. It sounds to me like hyperthyroidism, which is more common in women than men. If anyone has any knowledge on this, I would be very grateful. Please, serious answers only
