When choosing sugar substitutes....?

The big 3 in the USA are SPLENDA (yellow packets), EQUAL (blue) and the old standard SWEET n' LOW in pink. I haven't been able to usa SWEET n' LOW for years because the chemical they use as the sweetener replacement cause too many health problems with me (and many others across the world). I liked EQUAL when it came out, but it has a strong aftertaste/ I do enjoy SPLENDA. It has a very minor after taste and cooks/bakes better than the other two.

Now these are MY opinions. I want to heat yours. Don't send me websites - I said I want to hear YOUR expert opinion. 10 points goes to the best statement.

I like splenda, but it's kind of pricey.

FYI - the research regarding the horrible effect of other sugar substitutes are pretty much unfounded. If you feed rats the equivalent of 300 cans of diet soda and they get tumors you are basing your experiment on a situation that will never happen in humans.

Miladybc, My wife and I have tried the three, and can only say that the splenda doesn't leave the same taste as the other two. My wife bakes for a diabetic, and got a recipe from the Diabetic Associations website using the Splenda.

Having a family member who's a diabetic, we use Splenda all the time in recipes...it's more cost effective to purchase in large bags instead of packets and to get it from wholesale club like BJ's...it's a good $4 cheaper than grocery stores. We do keep the packets, too, to use for coffee--and I always carry a few packets in my purse.

Splenda has a great website for recipes, too:

    http://www.splenda.com/

You neglected to mention the "newest" choice on the market>>>Truvia (which is a natural sweetener)....and they, too, have a website:

    http://truvia.com/

**I included the websites not so much for you, but for the thousands of other readers who just may want this info handy for themselves ;).
