What do you think about giving homemade jam and chutney as a wedding favour?
I want to make something for my wedding favours instead of buying something. I was thinking of making jars of jam and chutney and giving each guest a jar of jam and chutney as a favour. We're not having a huge wedding, it's only going to be 100 or so at our wedding.
Do you think it is too much to make jam and chutney? Will it make us look cheap if we give homemade favours?

i saw this on 4 wedding US,it went down a storm - the brides gushed about it,how sweet it was to have home-made favours
get some cute little jars (they don't have to be the size that you buy when you get jam from the shop, probably half that size) and some gingham cloth and tie with a ribbon.print off a vintage style label and with your names and wedding date on and something like 'spread some love'
consider reducing the sugar so nobody is excluded from taking them.i would do one or the other though,i think jam would be the more popular option.i don't think it would make you look cheap,i think it adds that special little touch.if i went to a wedding with home-made favours i would be impressed and be touched by it

i don't think i would go for both. you would be better off with either the jam or the chutney but both will make your tables look too busy.
everyone loves homemade jams. you can make sugar free ones for the people you know are not allowed sugar.
you can purchase cute jars and have custom labels printed and add a little ribbon. it would not look cheap and would be something your guests could really enjoy.
i love the idea. make ahead though so you don't get too crowded with things to do before your wedding.

I would love that as a favour! The happy couple made this jam and chutney with their own hands.. its a very good idea! Im making candy apples for mine - People have called me crazy, but its do-able. BTW I reported the person who said you were an idiot, he should be receiving a warning.

Making jam and chutney for one hundred guests is not being cheap. It takes more time and money to make jam and chutney than it does to pay for typical favors. The jam and chutney jars alone are what most people pay for their party favors, you know.
If you have the money, the time and the space to store two hundred jars (100 of each), then go ahead and do it

I think it is a lovely idea, making jam and chutney is quite time consuming, so it would be a labour of love! Why not ask your Mum or Nan or other VIPs to have a couple of days making them together. Having bespoke labels for them would be just perfect.

I think this is a lovely idea.. and it certainly won't make you look cheap.. but to be honest if someone at your wedding thought you were cheap for doing that.. you invited the wrong people!!

Who care's if it makes you look cheap?
You're funding the whole thing; you're paying for their three course meal and the alcohol, so the guests can take what their given or f-off in my opinion. I love it, I think it's a great idea.
