Should I try and be an Astronomer?
Ever since elementary school I have been interested in learning about other planets, stars, solar systems, and galaxies. I have been thinking about it for the past few days and I might want to actually be a part of actually discovering these types of things and learning about them at a much higher level. At first i wanted to go to Full Sail University and become a Video Game Developer but now i'm not sure. I have even been addicted to watching documentaries about the Universe and all that goes with it. For example, I have just finished watching a 5 season series called "The Universe" on Netflix and have been looking for more. It would be great if i can get some advice with this because this would totally change my plans for the future and i need to be absolutely sure.
Not sure if it matters but i am 17 years old and am going to be graduating from high school in one month, which is why this is REALLY bugging me.
Also, my main reason for thinking about going to Full Sail for game design is because my cousin goes there and is graduating in September and says its great. I have heard great things and bad things about Full Sail but I'm sticking with the good things and going there (if i choose Game Design) which I really want to (i think),but i also read that jobs that have to do with Astronomy are scarce (here and at other websites) and i really don't know. With only one month of school left this is becoming very frustrating.
Also, my grades aren't perfect. I am pretty good with science and decent with math. I really like learning about history (outside of America because i live here).

Jobs in astronomy are scarce. However, astronomy is usually studied in graduate school, so you have four years to make a decision. You must have a graduate degree to get a job in astronomy. Physics is the best undergraduate major if you want to go to graduate school for astronomy.
Full Sale is not a regionally accredited school and going almost anywhere else would be better. Community colleges are better than Full Sale.

You'd need a PhD to work in astronomy (PhD in astronomy, physics, or related field) which is 8-12 years of college. You also need to be passionate enough about it to major in physics, take a ton of science and math and computer science courses, spend your summers doing research, and put up with low-paying jobs after graduating while working your way up to a permanent position somewhere. And many astronomers leave the field each year (for high paying jobs in physics or computer science or finance) because there simply aren't enough jobs for all the people who want to work in astronomy.
It's a great field, but it's going to be a lot of work, and very competitive. Your local state university would probably be the best place to start if you want to try it.

To the Holy Rev Soleil - oh, so looking at the stars makes you an astronomer? I've seen a human kidney, I guess that makes me a surgeon. Yesh, you're right - but I suspect that we get asked because, being people who are interested in science and bother reading books on the subject, we might just know. I'm not an astronomer, but I know the sun will burn out in 5bn years, give or take.

You're not going to be a paid astronomer without a PhD. The training is long and difficult.
If your math is good enough, consider an unusual degree offered by Capitol College: Astronautical Engineering.
Full Sail is worthless, and Video Game Design degrees get no respect.

You need a Bachelors degree at least before even thinking about going to study about Astronomy. Beware I love space and all but if you jump off your ship your going to die and explode and probably have multiple encounters with space aliens and their wives. LOL Just kidding. Anyways, dream big and don't let anything take you down. And don't, don't get someone pregnant!

do what i did, get a job in human resources at nasa, that way u can feel like ur part of the astronaut team. and u can brag to hot women/men that u work at nasa, u dont need to tell them where within nasa u work.
also, u could be an ***-TRO-NUT, a proctologist, this is a doctor who checks peoples butts/anuses area and does colon checks. they get paid really well too, even though the job can be a pain in the *** sometimes, no bun intended.
