Wash DC: Shaw neighborhood?
What do you think about Shaw? Safe? How is the diversity? Expensive?

The closer you are to Howard University, the better the neighborhood of Shaw. Further from the school it can get pretty rough. Closer to the school, it's fairly safe. Like so many neighborhoods in D.C., it is becoming "gentrified".
The diversity depends upon what you're looking for. The population is overwhelmingly black at the present time, if that's what you mean, so it isn't diverse in the traditional sense of the word. And prices are on the lower end of the scale. As the properties located here are renovated and improved, and as families move into the area and slum landlords move out, prices rise. There are quite a few foreclosures at the present time and they are driving the market.
