Computer Sleep Mode.?
At nightime Instead of shutoff, I put the computer to sleep.
1) but always!, at 3am, it wakes and then about 10 minutes later it goes back to sleep....on it's own.
Why is this happening? There's not a disk in tray - I haven't made any changes anywhere.
2) And when the computer is in the Sleep Mode, can hackers, viruses, trojans (or anything) get
access to it?
p.s.: when I wake the computer in the morning, everything is still there where I left off - and I can continue doing what I was at whether surfing, programming, or whatever. The 3:00 thing hasn't hurt anything.
I'm running Vista 64bit, sp2 - HP desktop 4 core, DSL.
Oh!, Don't blame it on Vista, I've been using it for years, working very good.

:) well, I don't like Vista, but that's probably not doing it. Most likely it is performing a scheduled backup or defrag. what security software d you have? Yes malware can access your computer when it's asleep, IF they have permissions. there are some malware programs that can actually set up additional accounts, even admin accounts and have acces to your computer anytime it is running, whether it is asleep or not. If you suspect malware, spigot search and destroy and malwarebytes are very effective at finding and removing malware, and are totally safe (digitally signed, Norton approved) and are free.

Robert is correct, this is most likely a scheduled task that has been granted permission to wake the computer.
