Please forgive my ignorance, but what does the term "Troll" mean?
I see it being used all the time on the religion and spirituality section, but I don't understand it. Would some one please explain this term to me? Thank you in advance.

Originally a disgusting creature that hid under a bridge until Billy Goat Gruff killed him.
Or
To cast bait on a line then move about in a bout in hopes of catching a fish.
Or
On the internet a combination of the above

Troll is a double entendre. On one hand it refers to people who cruise looking for questions to give snappy answers to, as a fisherman "trolls" a lake or stream for fish. The other is a reference to the ugly beasts that live under bridges and take great delight in annoying and upsetting people.

Traditionally, it is a beastly, horrifically ugly elfen humanoid who lives as a hermit in the forest or some ruins somewhere. Some had quasi-magical powers. Today it means someone undesirable to date or have to your house party, i.e., a socially underdeveloped, ugly person.

A grotesque humanoid (ignorant posters) who turns to stone (get flamed) the moment he or she is exposed to sunlight. (arguments are refuted with provable facts)
They hide under bridges waiting to victimize the innocent with their lack of tact and enlightenment

To pretend to support something that you in reality do not, usually in order to start a flame war. Sometimes amusing but can get tiresome very quickly.

A "Troll" is someone who steals your ID to take out a credit card in your name so as to procure tasty potato soup for themselves at your expense.
Source(s): Topicality. Ignored by the exposure-obsessed who find that their trolling about trolling is "really funny" since Dog-knows-when.
