why do I feel empty all of a sudden?

I get this overwhelming feeling of emptiness come over me...I cant deal with it.

I've suffered in the past with anxiety and depression although I feel much better now.

I just split up with my fiance of 6 years but i feel after a couple months I dont really feel much, just numb really.

Anyway, I realise I have actually always felt this since I was a young teenager, but not as bad as i do now. I can physically feel it like come over me and i say to myself, Im starting to feel depressed.

The last few nights I thought of dying...I never would do that because I know its wrong...but I just hate the 'feelings' i have to go through to just get to the next day.

Anyway...I dont understand the emptiness, i cant exlain it. It happens especially in the evenin/night, i just feel alone, sad, scared, panicky.... its like nothing in the world is gonna make me happy, everything seems depressing and just pointless..

I can feel ok the next day or even couple hours later...but then i dread to feel that way again.

How do i deal with an empty feeling and what shall i do??

Update:

Thankyou for your Answers! But I was on medication only for a couple of weeks, last year. It helped me sleep but i gained alot of weight because of it and I feel that medication just numbs my body & mind...its not really a way of life.

If you have never felt depressed it is very difficult to understand just how devastating it can be. You may feel slightly better, as you say for a couple of hours, but then your mood lowers again. You need help with these feeling. You should in the first instance visit your GP who will probably want to prescribe antidepressant medication. This is not always the answer, but it can help initially by giving you the motivation to get to the root of your problem. Therapy is a way of solving the problem for good. You could ask your GP to refer you for therapy or look online for self help or help from an online therapist.

going through the same..... if it is really bothering you, try to go and see your doctor, and see what he/she says. if they say it is the best step to go to a therapist or something, do it, it sucks feeling so down most of the time, so if you want to be a happy person again that's the next step. and to me it seems you are very depressed, and don't ever think of dying or hurting your self. its not helping anybody. or if you dont want to do that, i know someone who did yoga instead :) but i am not sure if that would really help.....
