Why doesn't my dog give kisses?
This is something I've never come across before. All dogs I meet always give me kisses. However, my Lab/Pit doesn't. Ever since we found her as a puppy she never gave kisses. Even if she hasn't seen us in a while, she won't give kisses. Only time she'll actually lick someone's face is if they have food on it.
Dos anyone know why?
I don't expect someone to know the EXACT reason. Just ideas or guesses would be fine.
And please, I ask nicely, nothing sarcastic.
Thanks!
Byron, she doesn't give kisses to anyone.
Lol @Gene Masseth.
@Rozhelle, I've had her for almost 3 years now. And it isn't just me. It's everyone.
@Lady Walker; So she's probably just not comfortable with kisses, huh?
@Logan, LMAO. My dogs eat Wellness. :).
@Shamaria, yeah I mean... She's the only one that's like that/ My Husky and my Yorkie never get tired of kissing and cuddling so I know exactly what you mean by it's a blessing and a curse! Haha.
@Kaleigh Thomas, Lol. I brush my dogs teeth everyday. I don't think their breath can be that bad. Hahaha.
@Lindsay, To be honest, that doesn't really bother me, as gross as it may sound.
@Greygarious, Yeah. She does that. She shoves her head underneath my hand whenever she wants my attention. But never kisses.
@Me, thats who; Oh my God. That's a touching story. I'm sorry for your loss, though.
@Diane White, Thanks!
@Kari, I know what you mean by the Pits being dominant. But I have 3 aunts that own Pits and a friend that owns a Pit. One of my aunts has 3 Pits and they ALL kiss like a Goldie would. Another of my aunts has 2. And they kiss just the same, not to mention cuddle. My last aunt has a Pit/Boxer and a Lab/Pit like mine and they can kiss you all day. My friend's Pit doesn't kiss a lot, but he still does.
Do you think maybe the dominant Pit is stronger in my dog than my aunts' and friend's?
@Kari; Please message me with a response to what I responded to your answer with when you see this.

I have raised afghan hounds for 25 years and they rarely give kisses. It is just not something common in the breed (or at least in my dogs). It seems that dogs that are bred to be really submissive give kisses more than breeds that are more independent. When a dog licks another dogs face it is either begging for food (as in pups) or showing submission to the other dog. Your dog is more likely to be a dominant individual so won't show submission by licking your face. The pit bull is a dominant breed so that may contribute to the lack of submissive behavior.

Not all dogs have the same habits or talents. I have had 7 retired racing Greyhounds over the years.
Noe has been a licker, though they lick themselves as much as any other dog. Some dogs who do not lick chatter their teeth in excitement around people. Some of mine have done this. Regardless, they have all been equally devoted and happy to greet people, even if the only way they show it is to shove their heads under people's hands to be petted.

My guess is that your dog isn't actually a dog it is a dog disguise for an alien who on his planet always wanted to be some girls pet from earth. After 346 years of torment from his peers he packed his bags and left for planet earth. After picking out his best disguise of of a little puppy that look s like a pit/lab a lady came and adopted him. The only way that he can come out of his costume is if he is kissed by someone he loves. But if he kisses the one he loves he will be caught and have to go home. So your dog loves you sooooo much that he cant and wont kiss you because if he does he will never get to see you again. This isn't a guess for it is me your dog, please understand and don't tell anyone.
love you
p.s. could we get better dog food ya know... something with a little substance geez ya cheap skate

There is no reason other than some dogs just don't lick people. Usually they have to be taught manners, but some just don't lick without ever being trained. Just like some dogs can't stand anyone cuddling them. Nothing wrong with it, just the way they are.

Dog's have different moods, temperaments and preferences. If only the command "kiss" was among the basic tricks you could teach a dog, then it would certainly top the list of "come", "stay", and "sit". But don't worry, there may still be time to teach your dog how to kiss you :)

Aww, I'm sorry!! My dog is a cute little cuddle bunny who LOVES hugs, being held, and kisses. Believe me, it's a blessing and a curse. Lol. All dogs are different. Some like cuddling, some like to play, others are indifferent and loners, but they still love you. :) Hope this helps!! :)

You should be glad for that. My dogs are not allowed to lick me. Dogs use their tongues for toilet paper.
