Has anyone bought that steamer mop from the infomercial? Does it do what they say?

Don't remember the brand name but it's been on here last week and I think I want one. I'm told steamers are fragile and don't last long. This one has attachements so you can steam a rug...how does it do that without having anything pulled up back out of the rug...pulls apart to steam your shower, floor, sink whatever...looks good to me and then has some attachement that snap on the back of the cleaner and one of those allow you to steam your clothes. So tell me what you know and do I really want to buy it for three payments of $33?

The typical infomercial content is not worth wasting your money on, and this steamer is one of them. Steam mops in general are poor machines to begin with. They don't hold much water, which means you can't work very long. They are awkward to use and are really only suited to "mopping" hard floor surfaces, regardless of fancy attachments that may come with them. They also do not get hot enough to produce "dry" steam or do much in the way of sanitizing.

You are much better off to purchase a general household steamer such as the SteamFast FS275.

Household steamers get hotter for a drier steam, less moisture, particularly on delicate surfaces such as hard wood is a good thing. Higher temps also means better sanitization of surfaces without the use of harmful and toxic chemicals. General steamers are less cumbersome because you're using a hose and wand over a long bulky stick. They have a "mop" head for doing floor work as well as multiple scrubber tips for doing everything from cleaning grout to BBQ's, to kitchen appliances, to bathrooms. A steamer can be used on any heat tolerant surface.

To answer your question about using a steamer on carpet, they are not intended as a total room cleaning machine like a carpet cleaner is. Steamers use heat differential to pull up stains and spot clean (dirt is attracted to heat and moisture ). The steam is used in conjunction with rags to remove the dirt or stain from the carpet.

Added benefits to a general steamer such as the SF275 is that they're cheaper and work better than most of the steam mop units out there. The SF275 runs about a hundred bucks, steam mops easily top $150 or more.

I've seen those commericals for years now. It seems like it works well. After all, steam cleaning is an excellent way of getting rid of gunk and junk. They steam clean off graffiti on concrete or block walls.

The hot steam will kill germs. But......just not sure about it all. It does seem kinda fragile.

What you can do, go to internet, google or yahoo search engine, and put in "steamer mop reviews" , include the brand name if you can. then you'll find some websites that deal with people's experiences with the thing, and can give you an idea if you want to buy it.
