Tips for starting a lawn mowing business?

I've begun to make flyers

http://tinypic.com/r/2je616v/7

I've blurred out the phone number for privacy reasons...

I'm just looking for a job over the summer. I'm 17 and haven't had any luck finding a job in town. I have my own mower and have some experience edging and mowing lawns. What do you think of my flyer? What tips do you have for me? What's another way to advertise?

I'm thinking of just putting these in peoples door and hoping they give me a call. I've got a pretty big neighborhood, with about 80 houses in it.

Thanks!

Your charging to much bro, charge about $10-$15 and try to make as much flyers as you can. Try going to local small businesses and asking them if you could leave a copy of your flyers there. Try places like nail salons, barber shops, starbucks have bulletin boards usually, jamba juice, you can even make semi big signs and post them and freeway exits(make sure their readable from a car, and keep it simple like LANDSCAPING ONLY $10 CALL XXXXXX). Go to a kinkos and be ready to work recruit some friends offer them $5 per lawn and make your "job" a buisness :) good luck

    G'day Rob,

First off I won't comment on rates because I don't know what country you're in. If your rate is too high you just won't get work. But remember every lawn is different in size, slope, multi-level, etc and needs to be priced accordingly. Also, colour flyers are more expensive to produce than say a flyer with all black text photocopied onto a coloured paper, say green like grass. My next suggestion is that you really don't need flyers at all, or only a small amount, because you'll get more work walking around on a weekend and door-knocking. This will also let you see the particular lawn and offer a price relevant to the work involved. Also remember that if you use a brand new push mower all day on Saturday and Sunday, it would need an oil change every month or two, and would be worn out in about 15-18 months.

    Cheers,

    Steve (Australia)

  • Hi Robert. I like the look of your lawn care flyer. It looks nice. There are a few things in it that I think you could tweak a little bit to get even more clients from it. I think you will find this article rather useful http://lawnsplop.com/lawn_care_flyers.html

    I hope this helps, Peter.

Looks good to me. Rates are great but check around to ensure you are not short changing yourself.
