Jordan River depth for the baptism of Jesus?
All paintings I have seen of the baptism of Jesus is water being pored on his head with a shell. I have heard the part of the Jordan River where John the Baptizer was was only shin to knee deep. Since the bible doesn't say how Jesus was baptized is it save to use reason and say he was baptized with water poured over his head?
Here is.a prophesy I found:
Ezekiel 36:24-25
24 For I will take you from the nations, and gather you from all the countries, and bring you into your own land.
25 I will SPRINKLE (or POUR) clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.
Also in the NT
Acts 2:41
41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
in the Upper Room at Pentecost. Only way to baptise those peope in an upper room would have been by pouring water on them... there was no river or tank of water with them.
And bible verses I am missing?
@Servant: I ask this because I have heard both. I just heard about a theory of when Jesus was emerged into the water he (quickly in time as we know it) went to preach to the souls of the dead. I heard this from a creditable source. But of coarse that is not in the bible. So I am seriously seeking imputed on the situation.
And yes, your research has done you well. I am Catholic and we believe in both immersion and pouring. CCC 1278 "The essential rite of Baptism consists in immersing the candidate in water or pouring water on his head, while pronouncing the invocation of the Most Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." So how is this a billboard?
So far the translation of baptism is the leading answer.
@Mom: I know the river is wider in some areas and deeper in others. Some places people wouldn't be able to stand it would be so deep. Some times it floods, sometimes its in drought.

Well, I was going to offer you my free Study on Baptism. I was going to email the offer but you don't take email...
So I read some of your questions and answers and let's face it I really don't think your are interested in what others will say, you only want a bill board....
But I will still sent them to you if you will send me your email and I will send them as attachments via my regular email account...
NOTE: You are right Billboard was a bad/wrong word to use(only one I could come up with at this time of night)...and if I placed you in the TROLL category wrongly, I do apologize for that.
I will just mention (which is all listed in my studies) if you will note, the Bible mentions: "MUCH WATER", "CAME UP 'OUT OF' THE WATER" "WENT DOWN INTO THE WATER".
Acts 8:34-39 (NKJV)
34 So the eunuch answered Philip and said, “I ask you, of who does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. 36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” 37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” 38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. 39 Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.
Mark 1:9-10 (NLT)
9 One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and he was baptized by John in the Jordan River. 10 And when Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens split open and the Holy Spirit descending like a dove on him.
Romans 6:4 & Colossians 2:12 both say "buried with Christ in Baptism" you can't very well be buried by pouring over the head...
John 3:23 (NLT)
23 At this time John the Baptist was baptizing at Aenon, near Salim, because there was {plenty of water} there and people kept coming to him for baptism.
There are others...

The word "Baptize" is a transliteration of the Greek word "Baptism", which means "immerse" or submerge".
In Matthew 3, Jesus is described as coming up out of the water:
Matthew 3:16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water;
Mark 1:10 And immediately, coming up from the water,
As to a low depth, I would question how anyone could know to tell you the depth of the river 2000 years ago at an unknown location (the Bible only says the Jordan, no location is specified)
All evidence then points towards a total immersion.

You base your beliefs on paintings?
Matthew 3:16 mentions Jesus' baptism and says,
"After being baptized Jesus immediately came up out of the water; . . ."
When Phillip baptised an Ethiopian, the Bible says,
"When they had come up out of the water, . . ."
Acts 8:39.
What do you deduce by the expression "up out of the water"?

Actual geographic soundings give depths in various places from two to seventeen feet, and there are numerous fords about waist deep. But everywhere the current is so swift it is often hard to stand in it.

I took a shower last night then came up out of the bath tub. I guess that I was Baptized again.
