When did your child start getting good at using art supplies and recognizing letters?
My daughter is 2 months away from being 3 and she has crayons, construction paper, stickers, and markers. She always just scribbles and never tries to make anything, like I showed her a heart and a happy face, drew it for her very slowly but she just scribbles all over. I showed her how to draw a circle and she got that eventually so that's good. :) She can't peel the stickers. I've showed her over and over how to do it but she never peels them and gets upsets and asks me if I will do it. She needs me there coloring with her or directing her when she draws other wise she is not interested. She scribbles and tears up the paper. She also still tries to eat chalk and crayons. I think this is way too old to be doing that. It tastes gross, you think they wouldn't eat it right.
I play Memory with her a lot and she is ok at it. I can tell she will pick up boards games quick when she is a little older. I was also wondering when your child started recognizing letters? I read to her every night at least 3 books before bed. I've read her the Dr. Seuss ABC book a million times and today I drew ABC on her paper and she recognized those but she gets the other mixed up, calls a T an E and so on. Her bath toys are Dora ABCs and she plays with those all the time, carries them around in a purse. Should she be recogizing more letters by now?

hey hunni i think all kids eat crayons and paper lol, even kids that are at school its just something random they all seem to have in common lol. just like sticking crayons up there nose! :( the joys of parenting. my son is just starting to understand letters now, he is 2 and a half, although hes always been very advanced with his vocabulary skills, although with the drawing thing, he sounds just the same as your little girl! he can draw a circle, but then will scribble over it until it is unrecognisable and tell me its a penguin! lol, dont worry! its great you read to her so often, its educational plus i bet she LOVES it! u sound like a worried mother, but she is right on track, if not more so, than children her age! and im basing this on 3 year olds, and you say your daughter is not even 3 yet? chill out babe! you are both doing fantastically!

When you show her how to draw a happy face is she holding the crayon/marker in her hand and your hand is over hers? I don't know much about when they draw certain things because my son is only 20 months old, but he does recognize shapes, colors, his numbers, and ABC's. He knows what letter is which and I have magnets for him to use so he can learn with those. I practice with him constantly. When we are coloring on the paper I write the letters and numbers for him and we go over them not in order. I also went to the dollar store and bought him two sheets of paper with letters and numbers printed on them, sticking them on his closet door. I notice that it's easy for him to recognize letters with a word like apple (A) or Turtle (T)

I think she's ok, just give her time. My baby sister just turned 4 and she's recognizing everything now. It took her a little time but since she's been in pre-k and we've been working with her she is drawing little peole and drawing flowers. She's good now and I think your daughter will be too(:
