What to do if you find a baby?
I am writing a fictional story where this problem arises. I want to know the proper order of operation from finding a baby to possible adoption. I believe finding a baby and claiming it is yours is a poor way to put this process. Though my story is fiction I think it would be helpful for this kind of information to be given to the general public. Though I hope no one finds themselves with this problem. Thank you for any and all help.

From what i know, if you came across an abandon baby, you call the police or take them to a safe drop. Police would be better as so they can check out the scene.
the child would then go through checks to make sure it is healthy and placed in the care of the state foster system. one can ask to be in care of the child then go through the process of working towards adoption but it is expensive and long.
