Would our republican democracy work better if more people had liberal arts degrees to help comprehend it?

It doesn't matter if you earn a liberal arts degree from Harvard, or Southern Methodist Univeristy, or Saint John's University, or even a community college. Does an understanding of history, philosophy, psychology, sociology, theology and art give you a better chance to comprehend what is going on in our complex democratic republic. And no, liberal arts is not the same as American liberal politics, (left wing) or European liberal politics (right wing), but is in reference to liberal education systems, not trade school or job training.

Update:

"As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy." Abraham Lincoln

Update 2:

The founding fathers used the term Republic because they viewed themselves as renewing ancient Rome, quite popular in Europe during that era. Heck, Catholic churches still used the old Roman tongue in church until the 1960s because of European Romo-phiia. But, a Republic in Rome, or in America is a type of Democracy, as opposed to Populist Democracy, which is 51% mob rule. Therefore, Republican Democracy. Like saying a sports car isn't a motor vehicle, because it's an improvement in speed. Rome was based on Greek democracy with improvements, and we're based on the Roman Republic with a lot of major changes. (to try to avoid Rome's downfall, the Caesar-effect)

Yes, However we don't have a Republican Democracy, its simply called a Republic, Republicanism has 'Democratic' Elements in it, but that doesn't make it a Democracy, and as such, Our Country actually isn't a Democracy at all, Its simply a Republic!

Edit:"As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy." Abraham Lincoln

    ______________________________________________

James Madison Wrote in the Federalist Papers that "democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths"

Republican government. One in which the powers of sovereignty are vested in the people and are exercised by the people, either directly, or through representatives chosen by the people, to whom those powers are specially delegated.[Black's Law Dictionary, Fifth Edition, p. 626]

the true American form of government was meant to be a constitutional republic not a democracy, or anything else. Democracy means mob rule. 51% of the people rule the other 49%.

Why would our Government need to be involved in Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Theology and Art? Would it not be more helpful if we could get our Kids through basic education and prepare them for Advanced degrees? Every year we pay more into Education and every year the graduation rate and overall test scores drop. I think requiring everyone to have a Liberal Arts degree is pie in Utopian Sky stuff. I'd be happy with a HS graduation of 85% or higher across the board.

Formal education resulting in a degree is not required to understand our system. All that is required is study on the part of the individual. Most of this stuff used to be learned in grade school. That's how simple it is.

Not. really. The nation would work a lot better if the basket-weavers all went to North Korea.
