if global warming was real, would you care?
let's pretend for just a moment that GW were shown to be unequivocally real and happening, would it affect you at all? would you want mankind to make changes to his behavior, or put into place measures to counteract a natural phenomenon? or do you think we should just let it go and do nothing
also please state (yes or no) whether you believe it already -- i'm most interested in people who say 'no'
thanks

According to virtually every scientific organization on this earth, AGW is real. It is horribly selfish for this generation to continue to contribute to this problem and dump it on the next generation, at which point it may be unsolvable.

I note the usual nonsense with links to rubbish sites like iceagenow, you won't find any science there.
Many denier try to claim it is natural and has been happening for the last 10,000 years this is fiction and easily proved fiction. If you look at sea level over that period you see a solid rise in the level at the end of the last ice age,
that started not 10,000 years ago but more like 18,000 years ago and continued for ~10,000 years slowing significantly around 8000 years ago and then again around 4000 years ago and more or less stopping around 2000 years ago.
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Holocene_Se...
The renewed rise is against the trend and seems to be accelerating the current rate is 3.27mm per year. The rate in the 1990s was 1.7mm per year, even if you use this lesser figure, if deniers are to be believed then 1.7mm over 2000 is 3.4m, yet sea levels have not risen by that much according to the data, sea level over the last 2000 is a flat line.
jimbo seems to be try the old it happened before naturally si it can't be us, this guy pretends to be a geologists (although today he seem to be pretend to be something else) His own words really show he has no idea, "Climates naturally change" climate does not just wake up Monday morning and say to itself, 'time for a change', it changes for a reason be it a change in solar output, a major volcanic event, a meteor impact or a long term orbital cycle like the Milankovitch cycles or even several of these together, cause a Co2 spike that further warms the planet. We have done just that, deniers can try and play the statistics as much as they want (and jimbo has many times) and pretend the change is small, but we know from the ice core record that Co2 has only moved between 180ppm and 300ppm for the last half a million years, and that change in nature takes thousands of years. We have through the use of fossil fuels moved that number to almost 400ppm in about 100 years and at the curve of that growth rate we will probably hit 650-700ppm before the end of this century.
I have said this before, as have a number of others here, but what jim actually knows about science would not fill a thimble.

I don't believe global warming, mostly because they seem to base it on politics rather than the facts.
If global warming was true, I would probably care, but I wouldn't make a huge deal out of it. I would conserve energy more than I do, but I wouldn't go all crazy and buy those LED lights or whatever. If you live by those rules of GW, how can you honestly live a happy life?

This is sad because this just shows that ppl wait until the last second to try and fix something huge. Yes it is real. I have no clue were the hell u live but incase u've noticed every year there has been higher temperatures, the polar caps are melting, ocean levels are rising, more water is being evaporated, more rain is falling, and UV levels are increasing. This all is because of
1) Humans thining the ozon layer
2) Natural Climate change
Let the Earth change itself, thats how it works. However when because of us the UV levels are bad well all I can say is I hope u have 5,000 degree protection sunscreen or by by.

Is it real? Is what real? By real, do mean that the warming is caused by humans? Is your question, "Has the Earth warmed?" It has cooled in the last 60 million yers, cooled in the last 3 million years, cooled in the last 6000 years, and probably cooled in the last 1000 years and 10 years. Is that cooling caused by humans? No. Were any recent warming intervals caused by humans. Probably not. Climates naturally change. If it warmed naturally, obviously I wouldn't care because as someone who knows a little history, I know that warming is generally beneficial and cooling is catastrophic. If it warmed due to humans, that would be a concern. Most likely any warming from humans would just be a slight bump up of the natural trend. If it was going to be minus 20 in Minneapolis, maybe humans might bump that up to minus 19. That is a big maybe however.
All of actions have consequences. It easy to say things such as we shouldn't pollute. It is impossible not to pollute. We simply have to decide how much resources we want to use to clean as much of that pollution that we can afford to clean. I work as an environmental consultant and therefore it is in my personal benefit that we spend a great deal to keep the environment clean. There is a limit to the amount of money that we can spend. For example at one of my sites, it may take a million dollars to clean 90 per cent of the pollution but 5 million to clean 95%. Is it worth it to pay that extra money when it has diminishing returns on investment. Just consider that every bit of that money is hard earned money that could go to things like food, shelter, and medicine.
We absolutely should not try to counteract nature. I have seen idiots proposing that we spray particulates in the air to cool it. We are a long way from anything like that. There is far too much hysteria and ignorance.

Do nothing. Because a warmer world is better than a cooling world. Unless you like living in ice caves.

global warming is real. personally i try to use less energy, such as riding a bicycle and using the fan instead of the air conditioner, among other things.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
I think that anyone who doesnt care is just a very greedy, unthoughtful person
- Anonymous1 decade ago
if it was real yes I would care. I already think people should change their behavior, stop polluting the environment, and respect the Earth.
I don't believe global warming is happening right now though
