How can I improve my oatmeal?

I use to use two packets of flavored oatmeal then switched to one pack and 1/4 cup of plain oatmeal. I would do half milk and half water and it was fine and good. I've recently switched to 1/2 cup of just plain oatmeal but it is too bland. I've added fruit and used all milk in it and even added 1 teaspoon of honey but it is still not close to the flavor and creaminess of using at least one packet. Am I missing something here? What can I do to make it less bland and more enjoyable like when I use to use the packets?

Getting the whole rolled oats is so much healthier than packets or Quaker boxes so good switch I would try making it over the stove with milk and add a spoon of brown sugar and some honey. Cinnamon is also yummy try this link it's some more ideas http://vegantrash.tumblr.com/

I just read this you can add an egg! It makes it custardy read this

The other stuff is creamier because it's in smaller pieces. You can easily take old fashioned rolled oats and run a handfull through your food processor or blender to chop them up smaller (don't go so far as to grind them into flour, just very small pieces.), and then cook those right along with the other oats. It would be optimal to do this each morning when you make your oatmeal, but you're not really missing much if you just grind up about a third of your oatmeal and mix it right back in with the rest.

Also make sure you're adding salt, even if you're making a sweet oatmeal. The salt brings out the sweetness and does all kinds of good things for the oatmeal. A good healthy dash should do it. You can also try using a tablespoon or so of real cream, or even coffee creamer. I used to add a little bit of vanilla chai spice creamer to my oatmeal. It was gooood.

But seriously the salt will probably fix your flavor woes.

theres lots of stuff you can add to oatmeal to make it taste better, some of my favorites are:

    Brown sugar

    cranberries

    raisins

    chopped walnuts

    banana slices

    chopped green apples

    honey

    cinnamon

    dried apricots

just kinda be creative, fool with it till you find a combination you like

also sometimes i use a little half and half or whipping cream in my oatmeal to make it creamier

sugar is what makes the packets taste so good. but you can also spice up your oatmeal with cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, or vanilla.

I always add a pat of real butter and a dash of kosher salt to the bowl after it cooks.
