Painting a wall that has just had wallpaper removed?

I have just removed the wallpaper from my walls and now want to paint over them. In large, the walls are smooth, with the original white paint showing (house only about 15 years old so walls relatively good).

However, in parts, the pealing of the paper has lifted some of the old paint to reveal plaster.

Before I paint the walls should I treat the exposed parts with something as I do not want visibly bumpy walls when I have finished the painting.

Have thought about a primer or even possibly a layer of lining paper to cover these blemishes.

Any advise appreciated

    Hello,

You have not stated were you live, but go to your local D.I.Y. suppliers and buy the cheapest white paint you can. Put this on your wall with a brush or roller. Two or three coat's Then put your top coat on.

    Good luck.

Try putting a primer coat on one of the bigger blemishes then a finish coat on top of that and see how it looks. Do an area that extends about 30cm (12") around the blemish. If it works OK then fine, otherwise I'd go with the lining paper.

Before you start paint work, make sure that the surface is clean of dust, grease and other foreign matter. Decide on superior quality and adequate quantity of paint and mix contents of paint properly to get consistency in paint work. This write up tells some useful tips to get consistency in paint work.

you just need a thin layer of pollyfilla (ready made would be easier) Sand over it, so it is flush with the paint.
