  • Changes to working hours on a temporary basis?

My contract of employment states that my hours of work are 8.30am to 4.30pm with overtime as and when required. I have recently been asked to work at a customers site, 2pm until 10pm for the forseable future. As this is quite a change from my usual working hours, can I ask for a better deal from my employer ?

  • Am I obliged to carry out duties not in my contract of employment ?

For the last 7-9 years of my employment I have been required to be on-call on a rota basis to "man the phones" of an engineering company that offers 24-7 coverage. This has been seen as "part of the job". In the last two years, the company has been sold to new owners and I have been presented with a contract of employment which make no mention of a requirement to be on call. My question is, can I inform my employer that I no longer wish to be on call (for which I am not paid) or because I have done it for so long is it now seen as part of my job ?

  • If doing a stand up poo, how tall would you need to be to crack a ceramic toilet ?

Odd question I admit and there are many variables to take in to consideration - a tall person with short legs for example.

But, how tall would you have to be to crack a ceramic toilet if having a stand up poo ?

  • who sings a song with save the last dance for you?

can anyone tell me who sings a song with the lyrics I'll save the last dance for you in it (or something like that). I also thinkk it has something like two hearts beating together. It starts with the singer telling a kind of story and then breaks into the chorus of saved the last dance. Sang by a guy with a big powerful voice, sounds like its from the 60's. It's not the drifter one. I also think it featured in the UK show Phoenix Nights when Brian met his girlfriend. Please help its driving me mad !!

  • Best way to connect AV Equipment?

I recently purchased a Samsung Smart TV. Very happy with the picture quality.

Having some issues with sound sync though which is slighty out.

This got me thinking about how my system is wired.

Currently I have a PS3 connected to the TV via a HDMI 1.3 cable. The PS3 is also connected to a AV amp via optical cable.

    Few questions:

Would I be better connecting the PS3 to TV via HDMI and then connecting the TV to the amp via optical cable ?

I have tried this option but only have the choice of Linear PCM and an other option I cant recall in the PS3 setting menu. Does this mean I cannot output Dolby Digital via HDMI ?

Would a HDMI 1.4 cable make any difference ?

Notes - amp (receiver) has no HDMI input / outputs.

Dolby digital is output to receiver if connected by optical from PS3

    Any help / advice appreciated

  • rugby remote control car?

Beginning to think I dreamt this now as so many people are doubting me but I seem to remember not too long ago that professional rugby matches in England used to use a remote control car to bring something onto the pitch ?

Can anyone confirm this and possibly provide proof to back it up ?

  • Art shop on rataskaevu street tallinn ?

Art shop on rataskaevu street tallinn ?

I have recently visited Tallin, Estonia. Whilst there I saw a little art shop that had a painting of St Catherine's Passage in the window. I really liked the painting and am now disappointed that I did not buy it. I think the shop was on rataskaevu street but I may be mistaken. I would love to find out the name of the shop and contact details to find out if the painting could be shipped to myself in the UK

Does anyone know the shop that I talk about and their contact details ?

If you were to walk down the steep hill where Bogapott tea room is located, through the archway at the bottom of the street, turn left, the art shop is on the left. The picture is / was in the window on display

  • Council Tax single occupier discount?

I have received a letter today from the council saying that they have received an anonymous tip off that I have two other people living in my house and I should therefore no longer qualify for single occupier discount.

I do not have anyone else living with me but do have a girlfriend who stays over once or twice a week. She is registered as living elsewhere - which she does

What are the rules on this ? How much time is she allowed to be here before she can be classed as a resident ? I have looked on the councils website but cannot find any information

  • Painting a wall that has just had wallpaper removed?

I have just removed the wallpaper from my walls and now want to paint over them. In large, the walls are smooth, with the original white paint showing (house only about 15 years old so walls relatively good).

However, in parts, the pealing of the paper has lifted some of the old paint to reveal plaster.

Before I paint the walls should I treat the exposed parts with something as I do not want visibly bumpy walls when I have finished the painting.

Have thought about a primer or even possibly a layer of lining paper to cover these blemishes.

    Any advise appreciated

  • neighbour building an extension above garage on party wall?

My neighbour has had planning permission approved to build a single storey extension above an existing garage. This garage has a shared party wall with my own garage. The neighbour wants to erect scaffolding on my garage roof to allow the build to progress. I do not really want to allow this as I feel damage could be caused to my roof (felt tears etc) by having scaffold installed and builders scrambling about on my roof. Can I stop them from working on my property ? Is there any law that covers this ?

  • 1980's film, need help to ID. 3 criminals in a snowy town, turn out good guys?

Can anyone hlp me ID this film

It's probably an eighties film. American. Cant remember anyone whose in it.

Think its either 3 escaped cons or recently released. They end up in a little american village where it snows heavily. Think their intention is to rob everyone but somehow (cant remeber how) end up doing good for the townsfolk.

I remember one of the cons wears a wooly hat and is a little thick. Also at some point a slay is involved.

Film is a kinda childs comedy film.

Anyone know what it is ?

  • PS3 Backup / Restore problem ?

I have recently had my PS3 replaced under warranty from Sony. Before exchanging systems I created a backup of my old system to an external USB hard drive. The backup took about 40 minutes to complete. If I plug the HDD into my computer I can see the backup is stored in \PS3\EXPORT\BACKUP\200812091953 and the folder contains several files archive.dat archive2.dat etc. The files total 31gb in size.

When I have tried to restore the system using the Backup\Restore option, the system carries out a restore - first warning me that the backup was created on a different PS3. The restore takes about 1 minute, and appears to restore nothing.

How can I restore my system - all I really want are my game saves, dont want to playing from scratch again.

    Can anyone help ?
