For religious persons who believe Jesus & God are the same entity, please read this & answer a question for me?

If you could, please?

I did some research this morning to make sure what I had read before was what I thought it was and that I wasn't going crazy when I believed Jesus and God were not the same and that God is and was the true authority and Jesus is his son.

So, I read the Beattitudes Jesus had given to his disciples in Matthew, & there were so many statements affirming that they are not one and the same, but this one stuck out the most.

What do you believe Jesus meant when he said this?

MATTHEW 9:4

4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” 7 Then the man got up and went home. 8 When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.

He also says in Matthew 7:

Matthew 7:

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Or how about Matthew 5:?

33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne;

Or how about when Satan tried to tempt Jesus and he said the following in Matthew?

Matthew 4: )

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”

Is this enough to affirm to you that Jesus is the son of God, not God, and that is the one true authority but Jesus was allowed to do his bidding on earth?

Or do you still believe how you have in the past? If so, why?

Thanks :)

Update:

Veinel: You prove my point. You stated that many other texts claim that Jesus and God are one and the same. Then why is the whole beatitudes Jesus gave to his disciples, written with different views than other ones? How are we supposed to know which one are correct and not? Isn't this calling Matthew a liar then if he claims Jesus said he is the son of God and that his father is the one true authority?

Update 2:

Gavin, I wouldn't judge you for your views, neither do I believe they are right or wrong. They are what you believe. Thank you for your insight.

Update 3:

Paw paw, I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. I am an agnostic atheist and actually loathe the jehovah's witnesses and their ideals and beliefs. I am only trying to get other persons interpretations of the scriptures I had read. Plain and simple. Not here to make a fight or cause problems. :)

I'm not sure how you differentiate between the concept of the "Son of God" and "God" for this. Jesus was the only begotten Son of God. He was born (not simply created as Adam was) by a miraculous conception. If I could explain that, I would. I know THAT it happened, but not HOW it happened. That is about like saying I know THAT a computer works, but I don't know HOW a computer works. There are those that do, but I'm not one of them.

The term "Son of Man" had significant meaning to the Jewish listener and to the Jewish reader. It may help you to study that term and what it meant to them, and then the verses that bring up "Son of Man" will have a new meaning to you.

Jesus was fully human, and at the same time fully divine. This was so because He was (and is) God on foot. He made the declaration many times that He was God. For instance in the garden of Gethsemane, He asked the soldiers who they were looking for. When they said they were looking for Jesus, He said, "I am." The King James Version adds the word "he" to this to make it make more sense. But in that, it changes the meaning. Jesus said, "I am" and with that made a declaration of deity since "I am" is the name God uses for Himself.

Bubbles in all ,of this i did not see one of the beatitudes that you talk so much about you may find them in matthew chapter 5 verses 1 thru 12. again In john 10;30 Jesus states that I and the Father are one then John 1:1 states "In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. Pretty clear I think but if not look at verse 14 "and the word was made flesh and dwelt among us..." also first John 5:7 states " for there are three that bear record in heaven, The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." They are three different persons that make up one God head or the trinity and all are of the same essence

There are many proofs in scripture that show that Jesus is God. The Jews knew that only God had the power to forgive sins, so Jesus was identifying Himself as God there. When Jesus says that He and the Father are 'one' the word used is always used as the number one, not just a vague feeling that they think the same way. I give a link with further proof, from scripture. And the early church fathers clearly thought Jesus was God too.

The fact is, not a single person in heaven or earth can go to the bible and say "here is Jesus or the apostles talking about or hinting at the trinity."

It is almost 2 centuries after the bible is written that you first start to hear about the trinity.

In those two centuries, Christianity is shifting from it's Jewish roots, and being invaded by greco-roman philosophy and paganism.

That is enough to account for how these kinds of ideas entered the Christian thought.

The trinity is not biblical, Jesus didn't believe, the apostles didn't believe, Jews didn't believe then or now, the bible writers didn't believe.

That's why it's not in the bible.

So why so so many Christians grasp to it as if their life depended on it?

You missed a few very important Scriptures - first, in John 1:1-14, stating that the Logos of God eternally co-existed WITH God, AS God, and that the Logos became flesh (with his own unique body like every other human). (Logos is translated as "the Word" in most translations).

Also, you missed in Revelations where Jesus said that He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, as contrasted to God (i.e. Jehovah) who said in Isaiah that HE is the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

While on earth, it surely is true that Jesus became "SON" of God by virtue of the incarnation; but from the beginning, it was not so.

Isaiah 48:16 states that Jehovah your redeemer was being sent by Jehovah Elohim and His Spirit.

Yes, while on earth, Jesus was not God, but "SON" and "only begotten", "And we beheld His glory, as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth"; but (and again I point out) that PRIOR to the incarnation, He was eternally God.

I believe God is the eternal everything who created everything by Jesus Christ, if that makes sense. If you read the entire book of the gospel, (either Matthew, Luke, John or Mark), you will notice how humble Jesus was in that He did not want people to worship Him and if they did He knew it was revealed by the Father for them to do so because He never told anyone "worship me". In fact sometimes after healing someone He would tell the healed not to tell anyone. I think that is because He could not reveal right away that He was of God because He knew that He would be killed for it.

Anyway to answer your question, according to scriptures, Jesus was sent by the Father, He is of the Father and He and the Father are 1.

You must stop trying to find verses to justify a wrong doctrine. There are many more text which state Jesus to be no only the son of man or the son of God but God himself manifested in the flesh. He is all of that, and became lower in human form to come down and die for our sins. You must love and praise Him for this instead of thinking of Himself as a lesser God as the JW´s are trying to do. I recommend you reading "Show us the Father" at:

we fought of the Arian heresy centuries ago, and basically if jesus was not God, then the sacrifice is not enough, because our sin takes us away from the infinite, leaving an infinite gap, which can only be filled with an infinite being, and there's only one infinite being, God. I could explain all the verses, but I haven't had breakfast yet, and I want breakfast more than answering every question.

It can be confusing to be honest when you take things out of context. Jesus while on earth in the flesh was very much the Son of God. God in whole is much more than the flesh and I think Jesus was God's way of walking in his creations shoes and providing us proof that he understands and takes responsibility for sin and provides us real in the flesh proof that we can be free from sin if we accept Him.
