Do Jehovah Witnesses claim it uses the Bible as it's "supreme authority"?

Jehovah Witnesses claim it uses the Bible as it's "supreme authority" but Where in the Bible does anyone count their time in preaching on a slip of paper and are assigned record cards of activity?

Update:

No Change within Lone Dissenter returns - Sorry to deal a blow to your superiority complex but I am actually asking non- JW's that are aware of WTS cult activities.

No. While they may make some claim that they believe in the Bible, they also preach that no one can understand it without the Watchtower Society. So, in essence, the "Supreme Authority" for JW's is the Watchtower Society and whatever they believe at the moment and NOT the Bible.

While Jehovah and Jesus have no need for keeping records on paper, humans are different. We need them to know where we have been and what we need to work on. Wherever you work, I suppose it is paperless. Nor would it need computers, the new paper.

Undoubtedly, the 1st century Christians would have had something similar. They went from house to house but we know the work, as everything of God, is organized. So someone needed to know who went where and how far. This was so others would go to different areas of the cities.

How did they keep track? We know they could not carry all the scrolls around with them. They had studied enough from early childhood onward to have a fine knowledge of the holy writings from memory. Perhaps they just remembered where they went and who they met. I just know I can not come close to doing that. What did I say? Oh! Yeah.

The Bible is our "Supreme Authority". It should be so for every real Christian.

Yes. All of our publications are based on Scripture.

    Silly question.

Well we teach the kingdom of God as the Bible teaches. An everlasting heavenly rulership over the earth of righteous dwellers. (Daniel 2:44; Psalm 37:10,11,29)

Who else teaches this truth to their congregation?

We live by Bible standards. Workers of righteousness, approved by Christ that we love neighbour and even peaceable with those that constitute themselves against us. We teach the good news of the kingdom over the whole earth. Make Jehovah's name known earth wide.

This is not possible without Jehovah's backing the opposition to the good news would work to suppress us (2 Corinthians 4:4). This world is not a friend to the good news message even governments have turned against us yet we have never declined or receded but grown strongly over the earth. We teach and translate the Bible in hundreds of languages and produce millions each year.

Our infamous fine Christian conduct and undiminished zeal for preaching God's kingdom no matter what obstacles we have to overcome is testament that we take the Bible as our supreme authority for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

That every time you ask your questions poised against us we always come back with what the Bible really teaches as an answer. We are above to cunning deceptive questionings that don't want truth but your desire to conceal us good people as being evil doers of malicious intent. Yet we are non violent, law abiding, decent and help those even in times of great natural disasters to bring relief. We can afford to be transparent and open because Jehovah has no shame in us.

We make no secret that we are an organisation, we call ourselves an organisation - so we organise. We keep statistics and records just as any other valid organisation. That is what an organisation is: it's organised and to do so we need records and statistics to run effectively. 236 lands and territories, 7.3 million active members, 100,000 congregations needs massive organising. Even in heaven it is organised not random and sporadic. God's kingdom is a governing organisation.

    Nit picking are we?

Of course that is not found in the bible. Its purpose is to see how each individual is doing in the preaching work. No one goes around comparing hours with others.

Here is something to think about: Many things that are claimed by people who call themseves christians have no basis in reality.

For instance how do people who read the verse in John 14:3 apply that to them. I read Jesus speaking to his disciples? Since when were these persons transported back in time to that moment to claim that Jesus was speaking to them?

    Prove me wrong....please.

You are misled. Jw book so called NWT is rejected by the mainstream catholics n protestants.

  • Yes we do use the Bible as our extreme authority.

    It is God's word

We are not a cult btw, and asking disgruntled ones who claim that we are, will not give you an accurate knowledge of truth as it is mere negatively biased opinion.

Still, if that's what you prefer, that is your choice

    What else can they claim?

It is the same with many denominations, but how many actually follow all the teachings, practices, and examples found in the New Testament? The answer is that _none_ of them follow _all_ of the teachings, practices, and examples. That includes the JWs.

  • It is not just a claim, it is a fact.

    And you might note this:

    The Bible says:

"Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you." -- Hebrews 13:17, New International Version

So, if our congregational leaders want time reports, we give them time reports.

We "obey [our] leaders and submit to their authority," just as the Bible commands.
