electric dryer wont run?
i have a whirlpool dryer model lec8858eq2. the motor wont run. i checked the start switch, the thermal fuse, and the door switch. it heats up fine, but the motor wont run. is there any way to check the motor, or could it be anything else?
also, the belt seems to be tight

Hi John,
You stated the motor won't run but it heats up fine. That should not be the case as there is a centrifugal switch on the motor that needs to close before the heating circuit is complete.
I'm going to guess that the thermal fuse is the culprit. It is a white elongated plastic piece with 2 wires on it and it is located on the blower housing. You need to remove the back lower panel to access it. If you have a multimeter you could do a continuity check to make certain it is shot.
Many people think the high limit thermostat located on the heat box, is the thermal fuse. That is not the case.

There is (or should be) a thermal cut off button on the motor itself. Often as not this is in series with the thermal drum cut-off switches, but not on all models. Run round these first and look for an open circuit on the drum cut-out-switches. take your time to search for power (voltage) at the consumer switch and see if volts are being set to the motor and the drum thermal switches.
