Ramadan: what would you rate this book compared to the Quran itself..?

..regarding things like the supplied definition for Arabic words and phrases and things like that?

Example: " "revelation" (al-kitab)" (pg. 56, Al-Baqarah)

http://www.scribd.com/doc/17564384/Quran

It has a 4.7 positive review on Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Message-Quran-Muhammad-Asad/...

The author was a Jew who converted to Islam. The earliest apparent publication is 1980. According to this passage at Wiki: "The English translation - Message of Quran - by Muhammad Asad contains fatal errors and flagrant false beliefs. As a result, the Constitutional Council of the Muslim World League in Mecca issued a decree banning the print and publication of this translation."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Asad

Where could I find a more suitable English-Arabic book on the Quran that contains fewer or no errors and no false beliefs? I thought this one was a good start, but apparently since it contains "errors and false beliefs" (whatever those may be) - I guess it isn't.

Any advice or other texts to point me in the right direction would help.

Thanks.

Update:

"So basically you want interpretations, just interpretations that fit your beliefs?"

No. I want to know what you guys think of The Message of the Quran by Muhammad Asad and if you guys have any recommended reading material. This isn't about my beliefs.

Update 2:

"You can't compare other books to Quran."

I didn't say that. I asked if there were other books that hold a more accurate view too the Muslim community that speak of the Quran like Asad's does.

Update 3:

"Asad's take on Quran is by far one of the best."

Thanks. I'd just hate reflecting on owning a copy of his "Message of The Quran" and it being in vain. That would be terrible.

"As to "Constitutional Council of the Muslim World League in

Mecca" LOL who the hell are they to speak on our behalf?"

I don't know, probably makes about as much sense as the Saudi regime invoking

the Quran when they abuse it's texts so much or something. I guess.

"I have put together a couple of posts that may interest you and hopefully get you going."

Thank you.

Update 4:

I don't know what your question was and I can't control if

it was deleted or not Demolition Angel. Try and ask again.

Update 5:

"Generally, Saudi scholars follow the Hanbali school of thought which emphasizes on literal interpretation of both Quran and Sunna. They do not accept other methodologies, and as a result, have banned many translations, especially the ones that present rational or philosophical interpretations."

Interesting. Thanks.

Update 6:

"This religion is a catch 22 religion, it is a tool of social

control and social exclusion and is obviously man made."

Christianity and Judaism aren't all that different when it comes to these attributes either.

Update 7:

"what is your point?"

Christianity and Judaism aren't perfect just because they can point out flaws in Islam. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"~Matthew 7:3

Show me how Christianity and Judaism aren't tools of social control and social exclusion.

Good luck with that.

Update 8:

"shame on Islam."

Shame on Islamophobes.

Nothing compares to Quran. Period. Asad's take on Quran is by far one of the best. As always it is our individual responsibility to verify everything ourself. As to "Constitutional Council of the Muslim World League in Mecca" LOL who the hell are they to speak on our behalf. Don't go by what people say about Islam without verifying it for yourself, even if they happen to be Muslims. The beauty of Islam is that anybody who can read can verify what is true in Islam and what is made up. In addition everything can be verified through one single book, imagine that. Quran is the primary source of our beautiful religion, whatever doesn't check out chuck it out without fear.

I only read Arabic books, so I'm not really qualified to answer your question. I skimmed through the Amazon reviews and I get the sense Muhammad Asad's interpretation is less literal and more concerned with the 'meanings' of the verses, rather more like an explanation.

Since Muslims have different schools of thoughts, it's only natural that they will differ in interpreting the Quran. Generally, Saudi scholars follow the Hanbali school of thought which emphasizes on literal interpretation of both Quran and Sunna. They do not accept other methodologies, and as a result, have banned many translations, especially the ones that present rational or philosophical interpretations.

I have never read Asad's work so I cannot give an opinion.

So basically you want interpretations, just interpretations that fit your beliefs? Because that's the only say to consider something "false."

The Koran is the work of many authors,it is obvious to the clear minded that this is a social construction to govern believers and uphold the right to attack others. It is hard to imagine a god who would take so much interest in the female cycle or signal out another race for destruction, surely he could do that.According to the Jewish belief that Adam was the first man and Eve the first or second woman there is no evidence that Adam was a prophet and many now see this as a creation myth,so cannot be taken literally.

Jesus declared he was the son of god and with his father when the earth was created,he does not refer to Adam as a prophet or prophesies the coming of Mohamed,we have only Mohamed's word that an angel spoke to him and as he could not write he was just telling a story to the early Koran writers and there is no empirical evidence to suggest he was given the word of god.

Mohamed is seen as a warrior who wanted the Arab peoples to unite against the Jews and to suppress them, his unfortunate choice for a wife and his other sexual deviancy bring his character into question,he kept women as sexual slaves in not a great selling point and his attitude to women was not one of an equal but one has a possession, surely when god created man and woman he did so for reproduction and not as one controlling the other.

Islam is promoted as a religion of peace yet has no problem killing disbelievers, those who leave, women who have affairs yet many times the man escapes this fate,a woman who is raped,if four men witness a rape and do nothing to help they are equally guilty, and so on and so forth.

This religion is a catch 22 religion,it is a tool of social control and social exclusion and is obviously man made.

Christianity preaches forgiveness,Islam does not,so what is your point, what honour is in honour killing, this is a barbaric concept and to the thumbs down merchants, remember this, the Koran and Islam is becoming more fragmented due to the scholarly debating and interpretations.

Islam will not allow its children to interact with western society so why are Muslims in the west, the trojan horse theory,in Egypt why are Muslims attacking Coptic churches,in modern times have you heard of Christians attacking a mosque,Good luck with that, honour killing a child because she wants to be westernised, very humane, not,it is barbarity and you know it,shame on Islam.
