Why do people get so snotty when making any reference to Harleys?

Are they really that insecure? It would seem that in a forum such as this all motorcycles should deserve equal consideration.Knocking somebodys ride doesn`t show much class.

Update:

Judging from the early reponses it would seem about as I expected. Mostly a bunch of whiners with bad attitudes trying to rationalize their childish behavior.

Yes, all bikes should get equal consideration. There are HD riders that wouldn't consider a *** bike or even a Victory, the other American made bike (Honda no longer builds bikes in the US.) And there are plenty of *** bike riders that won't give HD a chance. They are extremely critical of them but have never ridden them and know nothing about them. And some people like ninebadthings are stuck on comparing them to sport bikes, which is like comparing apples to oranges. Any cruiser of any make is going to look slow compared to a sport bike.

You hit the nail on the head when you said childish behavior. When I was in 5th grade my buddies and I were always comparing Dodge, Ford and Chevy trucks, John Deere, International and Oliver tractors, Angus cattle to Herefords and so on. However, we outgrew it. Unfortunately, there are some HD riders and an abundance of non-HD riders that have never outgrown that sort of juvenile attitude.

I will agree with some of this but I ride a Older road king. The wife and I enjoy long wknd runs. The bike has never let me down.In ten years of riding. I keep it up , and take good care of it. plus its not the fasted thing on the road. But I can ride all day without getting a sore ***.thats because of the air ride suspension. Plus you can hear me coming A mile away.I love this bike. But if I see sombody broke down along the road somewhere I always stop to lend a hand. Unlike some of the sport bike people who just .Zip on by with there finger in the air.

Because there is something kind of disgusting about a motorcycle as a fashion statement, a status symbol, a lifestyle declaration. There is something disgusting about a bike that is huge and loud and expensive but has no performance. There is something disgusting about a motorcyclist who is so infatuated with decorating his bike and motorcycle costume. I saw an old guy on a harley yesterday, his accessories had to have cost more than the bike, and his accessorized clothes had to have taken hundreds of hours messing with. Harley guys are band wagon jumpers and sheep and strangly feminine in thier need to decorate a motorcycle, they parrot the harley party line and are usually dumb enough to actually think their bikes are the biggest baddest bike made.

because the majority of harley riders i have come across are dickheads.

Was working for a Ride for Dad charity motorcycle run, and i was the truck and trailer following behind the pack (to pick up any broken down bikes).

When all the bikers met at a place to rest, a few harley riders (as full of themselves as they are) came up to me and asked "ooh so youre a honda/kawi dealer...how many hondas have you picked up off the side of the road so far?

When the only bikes that had mechanical failures or anything taking them off the road were harleys..hehe

Because of riders that shout over to me, "Get a real bike." Then I tell them my 1800 Goldwing has a bigger engine than any bike made by Harley-Davidson. "Well, get a bike made in America" they wittily retort. I tell them my bike was made in Marysville Ohio.

If a person wishes to ride a Harley, more power to them. I have friends that ride Harleys. We talk about riding and trips we have take. BUT, when I meet one of the many that are drunk on the "Harley Lifestyle" then the gloves come off.

I think they have a bar exam for Harley riders, if your IQ is over 90 you fail. No seriously a Harley is the poorest motorcycle out there and they barely run, and the guys riding them have no respect for anyone else. They are begging to be made fun of.

They're slow, they sound like crap, they have engines bigger than some cars, and they handle like crap. Why would anyone be nice about them?

It's the black leather pirate costumes. They're begging for it. Why don't you get it?
