This sounds like either the drive belt is broken (doubtful) or the linkage bar has come adrift. If so you need to reattach the linage and use a cotter pin to keep it from coming off again. However, you might just have a sticky clutch collar. This inside the drive gearbox and you might just free it, but it is doubtful this is the cause.

My problem turned out to be the brake. When engaged, relieves the tension on the drive belt. When released, full tension was not being applied. I checked this by putting the mower in motion (with little power evident) and then reaching forward with my heel to pull back on the brake pedal. The thing took off. Did an examination of the brake's operation from front to rear and couldn't see any obvious problems. Cleaned everything that touched the brake linkage, shot a little WD40 anywhere any parts moved, and called it fixed.

I m having a similar problem. With the mower running, I depress the brake/clutch, move it into gear, release the brake, and nothing happens. No movement, no hesitation, no shudder, no nothing. I know it s in gear mechanically because I turn it off and try to push it, and it doesn t roll. Move the shifter to neutral and it rolls.
The problem started suddenly. I was mowing and something didn t sound quite right, and I thought I smelled something burning, so I stopped. I didn t find anything obviously wrong, so I started it up, but I couldn t go anywhere. I jacked it up and looked at the belts, etc., and didn t see anything obviously wrong, but on the other hand I don t know what I am looking for. The belts seem extremely loose but that might be normal, I don t know.
If anyone has experience with this problem I d be appreciative if you could tell me about it.

Check the drive belt. If it is broken or has come off one of the pulleys, change it. What else have you done to it? When did this start? Was it suddenly or over time? Is this an automatic type transmission or one that you shift? One guy on here a while back said that his mower wouldn't move, turned out he had taken the rear wheel off and lost the key that goes between the wheel and the axle. Need more information.
