How long would it take a prop plane to travel 1,000 miles?
Research for a fiction book I am writing. Also, would it need to refill along the way?
I really haven't delved into the description of the plane other than it being a prop plane that belongs to a friend of one of my characters. If you know of one that can go from say Montgomery, Alabama to the Grand Marais/Cook County Airport in Minnesota without having to stop to refuel and get there the fastest, I'd appreciate it. ;)
Okay the ATR72 is huge. The plane in my book only has a few seats. Are there any small planes that wouldn't have to stop several times to go that far?
How about a Cessna 421 C? How far could that go without refueling?

How big a plane ? An ATR72 could do it nonstop in a little over 3 hours. My Piper PA38 would take about 10 hours and need two stops for fuel.
You really need to define the aircraft if you want an accurate answer.
EDIT. I don't have figures for the Cessna 421C, it's a rather old design. How about using the newer Cessna 208A Caravan. This is still in production (Fedex has hundreds of the windowless freight version). The Cessna 208A can seat a maximum of 14 passengers and has a maximum range of 1079nm at 18000 feet at 171 knots giving an endurance of 7.2 hours with normal 45 minutes reserve so it could do your theoretical trip non-stop. The 208A is big enough to have a proper toilet on board something you won't find in a 421C so it's a comfortable trip. It's it's privately owned then you could have an interior with 8 or 10 very comfortable seats and a bar as well if that suits your plot.
