I saw a few people on RingTV at Facebook picking Ortiz by KO which I found interesting since Floyd is undefeated and has never lost (much less been knocked out).

    Here's how I see it...

Victor Ortiz has 2 losses and 2 draws. The 2 boxers he fought with some skill were an old Nate Campbell and Lamont Peterson, who he drew with, Ortiz does look like a different man at 147, especially considering that he weight over 160 vs Berto. That size won't matter. Mayweather fought De La Hoya and Baldomir who were that big on fight night. Mayweather will do everything Peterson did but better and faster. He wont be there to hit as easily as Berto was. His defense will allow him to counter Ortiz and win round after round. After losing round after round to Mayweather Ortiz will A) Lose confidence B) Get tired. I predict 2 or 3 Mayweather knockdowns in a wide UD victory. This southpaw opponent will be interesting but Floyd fought Judah who is a southpaw who had better speed and equivalent power to current Ortiz.

And NEW WBC Welterweight Champion of the World...Floyd Mayweather Jr.

I expect Ortiz to be 165 come fight night. Floyd will be 150-155.

@Killa, While Manny fought Cotto and Clottey he avoided more highly ranked Mosley, then #1 ranked Welterweight (who Floyd fought). This is why the Ring and Boxrec ranked Floyd higher than Manny at 147 although Manny was #1 pound for pound. Ortiz is the WBC Champion, which is better than Clottey (who was champion of nothing). The Ring and boxrec.com rate Ortiz # 2 at 147 behind Pacquiao. Ortiz is coming off the biggest win of his career...while Clottey was coming off a loss to Cotto. Cotto was coming off a win he struggled to get and a brutal KO loss to Margarito 2 fights before that. Floyd is fighting a prime world titlist...when's the last time you could say that aboout Pacquiao? Not Margarito. Not Clottey. Not Cotto. Hatton? Maybe. Not De La Hoya.

I pick Mayweather to win. I haven't seen anything on Ortiz that could give Mayweather a problem. He throws good combos but sometimes I think he waits long enough that put lags on his actions which gives his opponent time to recover.

However, we know how corrupted boxing today is. I think Mayweather is going to get robbed here and give Ortiz the title "0-taker". Besides, Mayweather is 3/4 retired and not as focused in the sport anymore and Pacquiao is retiring soon as well. Boxing needs a new face and I predict they will put Ortiz there. Also notice that Ortiz does not call out names on his own unless he is asked in an interview. How come he deserve big shots like with Mayweather and Berto?

I know what I said is somewhat a conspiracy but I think and looked at all possibilities before posting this.

Though I see this as a good challenge for Mayweather, I don't see Ortiz winning. It certainly will not be the easy fight some seem to think it will be. You have to consider the way Ortiz beat Berto. Now, Berto is no where near Mayweather, in terms of skill, but Ortiz showed the type of strength, aggression and stamina that will not allow Mayweather to stand in front of him or spend much time in one place.

You also have to consider that the win over Berto gave Ortiz new purpose. I can't imagine him beating Mayweather in any way but he will not give up that title easily. The test for Mayweather is that Ortiz is likely to outweigh him by about ten pounds. I don't see Mayweather coming in more than 152 or so. I see Ortiz at closer to 160, maybe a bit more. To be too heavy would be a mistake. Again, he's not fighting Berto and he'd get picked apart all night if he were too heavy.

I think Mayweather will win by a comfortable margin. A knockdown would surprise me. I don't think it's likely. However, I can see Mayweather digging deep as he is tested in some rounds. Naturally, he should pass these tests. I don't think it will be the "walkover" that some seem to think.

I don't see this fight as a tune-up for Pacquiao. Mayweather's talent is what it is. I don't see this fight, even with the expected win, changing Mayweather's chances in any way. Whatever Mayweather's chances of beating Pacquiao might be, it has little to do with this fight and more to do with how Pacquiao vs Marquez turns out. I don't think the time off has hurt Mayweather in any way because he never allows himself to get too far out of shape between fights. He's a gym rat and he has never shown any decline in his desire to train.

Ortiz gives him a run for his money the first couple of rounds. After that Mayweather adjusts and takes a UD.

Idk why people are saying Mayweather should fight Pacquiao on the spot? it would be stupid for him to do that, he has been out for a long while. Mayweather needs a tune up fight before he gets in the ring with Pacquiao and i think Ortiz is the perfect fighter for a tune up fight with Mayweather.

Nope. Ortiz made a hell of an impression in his win over Berto but let's not forget, Berto was never that great to begin with, he was a fighter built up by HBO fighting mostly beatable fighter who were either unproven or over the hill. Ortiz came off with the spectacular victory but it's Floyd who'll benefit from it the most. He'll come in from not having fought for over a year and domite the young Oritz like he does everyone he fights.

If its just based on the Berto fight, I don't really give a big chance for Ortiz to win this. But he does have a chin and the presence of mind to KD Berto while dazed. That was incredible. What he has to learn in the fight against Floyd is patience. He has to look at all the Floyd's previous fights and study it. And if he does he'll realize he has to do one thing, disbelieve the myth that Floyd is feather fisted. Don't just try to ram Floyd down like Hatton did. He has to crowd and move at the same time. Floyd is very good at moving in and out of range. Also, punch WHILE Floyd is punching, because only in that small window is he exposed.

  • Nobody is picking Ortiz to win. He has a weak resume with 1 fight at welterweight. Pacquiao destroyed the two high ranking welterweights like Clottey and Cotto who had a greater welterweight resume than Ortiz by far! Mayweather should have decided to take Pacquiao. Beating Ortiz means nothing because Ortiz again has a weak legacy if he had any.

Dude, Floyd chose Ortiz for a reason. Pacquiao is far far far better compare to Ortiz.
