Do you realize that Obama's first term parallels Reagan's?
From Gallup Poll.com
For perspective, please note that Obama is in a similar position as Reagan was at the same time in his Presidency:
By the end of 1981, Reagan's job approval rating had drifted down to 49%.
Things got worse for Reagan in 1982. The public's view of the economy remained sour, and the president's ratings during 1982 stayed concomitantly low, in the 40% range, ending the year at 41%.
The 1982 midterm elections were not good ones for Reagan and for the GOP. The Republicans lost about 25 seats in the House.
A clear cause for all of this was the economy. Still, Gallup analysts at the time presciently noted that there was some cause for optimism for Reagan:
Throughout the year [1982] a solid majority of Gallup's respondents have taken the position that Reaganomics will worsen, rather than improve, their own financial situation. Yet, Gallup consistently has found somewhat more public faith that Reaganomics will help the nation as a whole and even more faith in the president's program when the question is posed with regard to the long run. Surveys also indicate that the public has more confidence in Reagan than approval ratings of his performance would suggest. While only one third approve of the way he is handling the economy, close to half express some degree of confidence that he will do the right thing with regard to the economy.
Indeed, although 1983 began for Reagan with a 35% job approval rating -- the worst of his administration -- things started to look better.
His ratings moved back above 50% by November 1983 -- not only because the economy was picking up, but also in part as a result of rally effects associated with the U.S. invasion of Grenada and the terrorist explosion that killed 241 American Marines in Beirut, Lebanon
Everett > At this point in his Presidency, Reagan's approval rating was 43% and the country was in a similar state.

Reagan created Bin Laden by funding and arming his group to fight the Russians in Afghanistan.

Reagan did not face 0.5 the themes Obama did. there grow to be not a international wide recession at the same time as Reagan took place of work. There weren't monetary disaster, housing disaster, motor vehicle marketplace disaster, banking disaster and a couple of wars at the same time as Reagan took place of work. for the duration of Carters 4 years over 10 million jobs were created. less than Bush Jr.s 8 years, a internet 3 million jobs were created. This from the WSJ, infrequently a liberal report.

Huge difference. Reagan was a patriot who saw America as the shining city on the hill, whereas Obama denigrates America with sickening apology tours. Reagan brought down the Carter misery index. Obama has run up more debt already than Reagan did in 8 years. People had confidence in Reagan, who only lost 1 state in 1984. Obama is running 5 points behind "generic Republican." Incidentally, "Obama's first term" is a misnomer. There won't be a second term.

In terms of approval and polling yes, economic wise no. Obama's and Reagan's policies differ drastically. I'm not a Reaganite here, Reagan was not perfect, but Obama and Reagan are nearly polar opposites.

Obama can`t hold a candle to Ronald Reagan ! You must have missed the outcome`s of both Ronald Reagan campaigns for President ??
1980............. Reagan beats Carter in landslide ! Ron put a double whammy on Carter in 1980 and then Mondale in 1984 !!!
The Republican governor of California Ronald Reagan is to be the next president of the United States.
He has defeated Democrat Jimmy Carter in the US presidential elections by a ***huge majority.***
The Republicans took state after state in the east, south and mid-west, with results from their stronghold in the west still to come. So far Mr Reagan's electoral vote tally stands at *** 238 *** while Mr Carter's is just *** 35 ***.
******Attack on economy*******
In the last speech of his campaign last night, Mr Reagan with his wife Nancy, addressed 30,000 supporters at a car park of a shopping centre in San Diego, California.
He spoke of the state of the American economy under President Carter as "a major tragedy for the American family".
"In eight years here as your governor," he said, "I learned to have faith in you, the people and *** I envision a leadership as President taking government off your backs and turning you loose to do what I know you can do best."***
His speech was followed by a dazzling firework display after which he returned to his home in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles to spend polling day resting.
The outgoing president Carter`s popularity has suffered following the energy crisis and petrol queues. It seems his failure to negotiate a release of US hostages currently held in Iran has sealed his fate.
Surveys of public opinion also suggest Mr Reagan's performance in last Tuesday's televised debate convinced many he was the most suitable candidate.
President Carter is the first elected sitting president to be defeated since Herbert Hoover was beaten by Franklin D Roosevelt in 1932.
Even before the polls closed on the West coast, he drove from the White House to a Washington hotel to address his supporters an hour after congratulating Mr Reagan by phone.
1984 ........ Here`s the liberal poll for the 1984 election after 4 years of Ronald Reagan : ***1984 Newsweek Poll: Walter Mondale beating Ronald Reagan by 18 points ***
There's a little gem of Newsweek's embarrassing polling history buried under the perpetual poll sucker Howard Fineman's latest piece. http://www.newsweek.com/id/143258/output/print
But nothing like in 1984. That was the most embarrassing example of the latter kind of survey. It predates PSR but remains seared into our institutional memory. ***The day the Democratic convention ended in San Francisco in 1984, the Newsweek poll showed Walter Mondale 18 points ahead of President Ronald Reagan.*** Mondale ended up getting clobbered, *** 49 *** states to *** 1 ***.!!
