Turn off water valve prior to fixing bathtub leak?
Hello,
Am looking to replace a washer in my bathtub faucet (which I've done before no problem) to fix a leak.
Last time I did this was in a house with a shut off valve for the bathtub right next to the unit itself. Since this is in an apt complex and the shut off valve is on the building level (ie if I shutoff valve, the entire building gets no water), is it REALLY necessary to shut off water prior to something as simple as replacing washer?
Thanks much,
Mike

If the plumber put in a GOOD valve it will shut offs behind the cover plate You can use a screwdriver to shut them.

You need to at least shut off the valve next to the tub of course but you don't have to shut off the entire buildings water supply. There will probably be a bit of water running out while you are doing the job but this is normal.
