Could what happened in Egypt happen here?

I think that conditions are ripe for uprisings across America to happen. The same conditions that exist in Cairo, exist in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Chicago, like poverty, unemployment, and a ruling class who utilize an abusive power

More and more, I'm beginning to hope something like happened in Egypt DOES happen here.

What we have right now is corporate control of our country and the complete erosion of civil rights in favor of corporate rights; and both parties and most of their politicians and the Federal and state levels are fully-owned subsidiaries of these corporations who fund politicians' re-election campaigns. We have a corrupt Supreme Court which works for the benefit of these corporations and as a result, we are quickly becoming a nation of serfs.

It's probably going to end up that we'll have to have a popular uprising to throw the corporatists and the politicians who serve them out of power, and to keep corporations from taking absolute control of the government for their benefit, while they depress our wages, keep unemployment high, and curtail civil liberties in favor of maximizing their profits.

Yes, it is possible. Big difference is that Iran and the Muslim fanatics have instigated many of the recent uprisings in the Mid_east. They have no status or impact here. Our issues are around neither political party listening to the people. The Republicans have a chance to show they have learned and are different. If they fail, we will have a Revolution here.

no chance. Some cities might be facing conditions that should not exist in the U.S., but we have frequent legitimate elections at all levels of government that make it possible for different politicians to get in power. Once in a while, a good one is put in place who does his/her best to solve these problems in his/her area. If the U.S. had a corrupt system of elections, no freedom of expression, and threat of physical violence for any form of dissent, THEN the U.S. would have the conditions for mass revolt. However, despite what we might think of politicians, there is no denying that electing them is still under our full control and that our election system works as intended.

No. The United States has frequent elections, every 2 years.

Interesting. All those places you mention are run by long-entrenched Democratic political machines. Nice to see that you finally recognize that they are "a ruling class who utilize an abusive power" who has long kept any real progress from happening in urban America.

The difference is that the US is a true democracy and there is a limit on the people who rule over you.

You had a president who couldnt pass a single thing even when he had the super majority. Play the blame game.

Anything could hapen anywhere. To say it couldnt happen would be a poor judgement considering no one thought any one could destroy our pentagon and trade towers:/
