What's the best way to haggle for a good car price?

I'm looking into getting a new car but I've never bought one myself. My parents bought the one I have now. Does anyone have good advice for getting the price down? I don't want to pay more than I have to.

Don't show any emotional attachment to the car. The moment you show them that you are in love with the car and that you have to have it, you're toast. Treat it like a Girl at a dance: She does not want to dance..? No Problem..! I got 25 girls standing in line who are more than anxious to dance with me. NEXT..! You don't say it, you just carry yourself that way because IT'S TRUE. Quiet confidence, Pal. You got the Green and they want it, not the other way around. Therefore, don't beg but take command the deal. Sort of like asking: Tell me why I should dance with you when you are only one of about 5 options. HAHA.

Be vague and don't commit until you are happy with what they are willing to do. Don't let them run the show, you are the one with the Green. Therefore, YOU are the prize, not them. You call the shots. It does alot for you to be educated about the vehicle and features of it before hand. It will convey to them that you already know the drill. Let them believe that there are LOTS of guys in town with the same car for sale and so the best deal is going to win. Don't act like you are impatient. Act like this is just a Sunday drive and that you have all of the patience in the world in that you make them feel that you do not have to buy a car. I could go deeper, but this should get you started. Watch their funny tricks that they play on the back side of the deal if you are financing. Hold your ground and don't budge when they push you around, but don't be unrealistic, either.

In the world of negotiations, you have to be willing to make concessions and meet in the middle in some places, but not everywhere or every time. You can't just sit there and be iron fisted, belligerent or irrational because that is a demand, not a negotiation. The best poker face is to not wear a poker face. Tell them what you are going to pay for the car and then shut up, don't blink and THEIR move.

Knowledge and confidence. you gotta know what you're talking about and you gotta have a strong argument.

The one thing you NEVER do is try to get the price down when negotiating a new car price. You start at the invoice price subtract any incentive or rebates that apply and start your negotiations from there. make the dealer justify RAISING the price.

Do your research and look up the car on NAda.com find out exactly what its clean retail value is and if the car has any faults point out it takes away from the value. Make the offer and if they say they won't go that low then tell them that's fine you have another car to go see. If your offer isnt ridiculously low they will talk business. Everything is negotiable. make sure you.never pay the retail value. Always try and pay 1000 less
