What is the best way to buy a Car when you have no job an not the greatest credit? Should I go to the Auction? Or buy here pay here or Cash?

Hoof it and look to buy private deals.  Lots add a couple K just because it is on their lot.  Auctions are nearly the last DESPERATE ATTEMPT to get rid of the PoS anchor.  Ebay is worse.  The car won't be new, but won't be a wreck either.  It has been their daily transport to work. So most of the time the car is parked.  You have to pay cash in FULL and you get the title immediately.  Now it is your problem, for all cars are always hungry for gasoline.  What you see is what you bought.  If you blow up the car the next day, that is your problem.  Most go on for years.  I bought one from a car repair shop and it cost me the cost of inspection or $400  It needed a new head gasket as it was running on 3 cylinders, the shop told me and the original owner just left the car.   Head gasket cost me $100 and I put it on then it ran normally and drove it for 15 years. No other problems.

The best buys dollar wise are from private sellers. Often the price is lower then what a lot would want (but more then the trade in value offered).

Before buying make sure the person can legally sell the car.

When I go to buy a car, I start at the public library. Consumers Reports Buyers Guide is often in the reference section. The section on buying cars has information about buying used cars. There is even a short list of cars to avoid and also a list of ones that should prove reliable. Also there are frequency of repair reports, so you will know what is most likely going to fail. Find a car that is likely to be dependable and start looking for one for sale.

Buy Here, Pay Here lots often have sub-par cars that other dealers would not sale because they are high risk cars and very likely in need of some work. Which is great if you know how to fix them. But if you don't, then that money will go to some one who can.

One thing I have learned about dealers is that the bigger the ad, the less likely the dealer is to actually have good buys. The best dealers don't need big ads, they have satisfied customers who keep coming back. The price might be a few dollars more, but the car is one the dealer feels will not damage his reputation. Of course some places don't advertise because they can't invest in it or quality cars for the lot.

"Caveat emptor" (Buyer Beware)

Some of the BEST cars around are USED and foudn on CARS.COM< YAHOO< cars, and CARGURUS! take an HOUR or so and DROOL over them! i GOOD USED BENZ SUPERCHARGED CONVERTIBLE clk 230 for about $7 or so! MANY AUDI CARS under $6K and TONS of great used BMW cars and FORDS for under $5K will DELIGHT in the PRICES and the best PRICES for monthly payments! I stand CLEAR on the fact that EURO CARS are about the BEST< and tha t FORD is NOW more liek EUROPEAN thatn EVER! USED BMW 320i cars for about %4-5K and MROE JUST TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK! I repair ccars over the iNTERNET and give ADVICE most days!  

Buy a vehicle you can afford to pay for outright. You can easily find an older but still decent vehicle in the $5K range for example

Without an income you can prove, no lender will grant you an auto loan

If you want cheap reliable transportation -- get a 150cc+ motor-scooter.  

You can get gear to keep you comfortable in cold or rain.

start looking for a $6k car and spend $2k on it, tyres brakes new shocks if required.

2010 toyota if you need a small car? If you don't fix it yourself test drive what ever you look at past your favourite mechanics workshop so he can look at it on the lift. let him know your coming of course.

Buy a used car with some of the cash.

Don't go to buy-here-pay here because you'll get a terrible deal you'll regret later.

Don't go to an auction because you don't know what you're doing.

Pay cash. If you look carefully you can find a good deal, but that usually takes time - so don't be in a hurry.  I just bought a 2002 one-owner car from a private seller with 80,500 miles for $3750 that is easily worth twice that. It took 3 weeks to find it watching the ads every day. I was the first caller, immediately got a carfax report then arranged to have a shop check it over the same day which cost $180, but it was worth every penny to be sure it was a good buy. If you get in a hurry, don't do your homework and don't have someone who knows what theyu're doing check it out, odds are you'll make a bad decision. 

Buying a cheap beat up old car isn't an issue as long as you know how to work on it. Auctions tend to be a waste of time. Your best bet is buying off a friend or relative that has taken care of the vehicle.

Only pay cash.  And buy what you can with what you can afford.
