Praying for salvation?
Can anyone show me in the scriptures where someone prayed for salvation? Also, in light of John 1:11-12, how does one just receive Jesus and become a child of God?

To receive Jesus, the Holy Spirit must first indwell a person. Salvation is totally of God, and not of men. Eph 2:8-9 explains this. Those who received Jesus did not do so because of anything that they had done.

Jesus said "I am the way, the Truth and the Light: no man comes to the Father except through me."
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him."
Jesus said that He was the only way to get to Heaven and have salvation. He also said that is waiting to redeem you: he is knocking and waiting and longing.
In Jesus' time, men and women acknowledged that He was the son of God and the only way to salvation. They didn't need to pray to Him since He was with them, but nowadays requires the same declaration. In the Bible, the general method was as such:
1) Admit that you are a sinner and need a savior
2) Declare that Jesus is Lord, the son of God, and the only person who can save you
3) Pray for Him to remove your sin and draw you closer to His will
4) Pray in Jesus' Name
After this, the followers would do just that: follow Him. Christians are expected to do that today. They need to want to do His will and pray that He will guide them. Reading the Bible every day, praying every day, and finding a good Christian to answer questions, or a good church to become involved in is the next step. Only churches that are Bible-believing are any good. No extra doctrines.
Good luck in your search and God is with you.

King David of ancient Israel did just that. He prayed: “Make me know your own ways, O Lord, teach me your own paths. Make me walk in your truth and teach me, for you are my God of salvation. In you I have hoped all day long.” (Ps. 25:4, 5)
John 1:11-12
Because of exercising faith in Jesus as the Messiah, anointed Christians receive “authority to become God’s children.”

You Become A Child Of GOD By Praying This Prayer For Salvation:
Heavenly Father, in Jesus' name I repent of my sins and open my heart to let Jesus come inside of me.
Jesus, You are my Lord and Savior. I believe you died for my sins and you were raised from the dead.
Fill me with your Holy Spirit. Thank You Father for saving me in Jesus' name. Amen.

It's not in the Bible. Things like "praying for salvation" is what happens when Christians, especially pastors, stop studying theology.
Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone (Eph. 2:8-9) in Christ alone as is revealed in the Scriptures alone so that it might be to the glory of God alone.

We receive God's free gift of grace out of His love through faith in Christ. Prayer is an expression of the faith in one's heart. There are no magic words, incantations, or a right combination of things to do to receive salvation. It is a free gift of God, received through faith in Christ.

Salvation is nothing, nothing is salvation.
