why are work teams are more acceptable in Japan than in the United States or Canada?

The US, Canada and many Western nations place a high value on individuality. People who are brought up this way tend to resent being placed into a team because they feel that they lose the opportunity to receive recognition for their own personal efforts.

In Japan, on the other hand, the culture places a high value on the group as more important than the individual. People who are brought up this way like to be part of a team, and take pride in the team's success without being concerned about individual recognition.

Both approaches have good points and bad points.
