In Catholicism, is Purgatory strictly "time" spent somewhere, or is that an analogy...?
...an analogy for things that may be beyond our experience and vocabulary?
Thomas, Purgatory, whether true and biblical or not, in any case is not salvation by works. Read C.S. Lewis's The Great Divorce, and it'll make a little more sense.
*facepalm* I should have asked that only people who know what they are talking about answer this.
According to Catholic teaching, all who are in Purgatory will end up in Heaven.

No, Purgatory is not a revolving planet going around a sun but a state for souls so 'time' as we know it is an image
but the Final Purification for those assured of salvation ( those who die in the state of grace) for the holiness necessary for the joys of heaven as the Catechism of the catholic Church says#1030-1032

I'm Catholic but all I know is that Purgatory is the "final purification of the elect": "All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.

It could be an analogy since purification of our weaknesses that lead to sin can happen even in this life.

Purgatory is a place that lies outside the physical realms of existence.
It's not heaven and it's not hell but somewhere in between the two.
It's a place where one waits to find out where they're going to be put.

Purgatory, like Heaven and Hell, exists outside of time and space. Therefore it is not technically correct to speak of spending "time" in any of those states of existence.

yeah what poopy said, don't ya KnOw, we are subject to Censorship, bait/target and reporting, calling out and slandering, we are Not allowed to answer anything that goes against "their" system, especially if we use Gods Holy Living Word....so stop it:-) but if the Truth is what you want....
there is no scripture that mentions purgatory, and there is no scripture or any chain of scriptures that really teaches that once a person dies that they can be saved after death by virtue of what people in this life are doing. And the teaching of purgatory, that the priests can pray or someone can make a donation to the church and get someone out of hell really grew up about a thousand years after Christ and it became, quite honestly, it became a scheme for the church to basically capitalize on controlling salvation, or trying to capitalize on the idea that they control salvation.
It comes from the word ‘purge’ and supposedly, you’re not quite good enough for heaven yet, but you’re going to go through a little bit of burning to get any little sin that might be left burned out, or boiled out, and how long you boil might not only depend on how bad you were but how people are praying for you. Well, that is so contrary to the teachings of the Bible. Once you die you take your record with you. People are not rewarded based on how others are praying for them once they die. People take their record with them to their grave that they’ll meet in the resurrection and the judgment, and purgatory is just not found in Scripture. It is really a teaching that came from pagan tradition.

There can't be a Purgatory because it is agreed that salvation is not by works, right?

there is not time as we know it , it would be beyond our human reasoning , a mystery as they say

Heard of Davey Jones' Locker? It's pretty much like that.

We no longer believe in it's existence. So an analogy I suppose.
