Switching to sippy cup...?

I asked a question earlier today about switching to a sippy cup. But I have another question.

Background - my son has been using sippy cups since he was 6 months old. But has been taking his milk in bottle up until now (he's 14 months). He doesn't seem very interested in drinking the entire 8 oz in a cup before bed like he normally does from a bottle. (I live in Georgia, so it's almost 6:00 and he goes to bed at 6:30.)

Should I just plan on giving him more solid foods before bed instead of 8 oz of formula? (No whole milk yet because he has trouble digesting it.)

Also, how much formula/milk should I be giving him daily?

Thanks for your answers!

Update:

I suppose I didn't make myself clear. I took the bottles away... He has 3 meals a day with snacks in between. He likes to have an 8 oz bottle before bed, that way he's nice a full all night long. I was wondering that with taking the bottle away, is it unrealistic of me to expect him to drink a full 8 oz from a cup? Or will it just take time to get used to drinking out of the cup before bed?

Update 2:

And yes, my child was premature which is why we kept bottles for a couple months longer than the regular 12 months...

I don't know how much milk a 17 mo old needs, my son is 20 mo's and I quit measuring, he just gets one sippy cup full of milk a day. I believe the cup holds about 8 to 9 oz. Since your baby is still on formula and drinks 2 other servings of it earlier in the day, I'd say it's plenty fine to just feed them more food before bed if they don't want to drink as much milk anymore.

At his age, there is no need for a bottle period. He is quite able to drink from a sippy (as he does it during the day). Simply make an affair of it, have a "big boy" ceremony and dispose of the bottles, giving him some sort of reward for being so grown up. Maybe buy him a new sippy cup he can help pick out on his own to use as his bedtime milk one. Only to be used at bedtime to help soothe him. As for the solid food issue, he should be eating 3 meals a day like you at this point. With snacks in between. The formula should be in addition to his eating real food for nutrition, not a substitution.

No bottles after 12 months unless the child was a preemie. Milk? no more then 24oz/day, at least 16 oz, solids don't make up for it if he is getting less then 16 oz but will help him feel full for bedtime and whole milk yogurt is a good added food.
