What is a recipe replacement for lard or vegetable shortening?
Will it work well if I use olive oil instead of lard or vegetable shortening in making Tortillas?
Margarine is totally out of the question for human consumption. You can set it out in your yard for a year and no living creature will touch it. It is one molecule away from being grease used for machinery. Its melting point is 114 degrees Fahrenheit and will clog capillaries all through your body. The FDA made a big mistake approving that garbage or they were paid off in bribes to pass it through.
All answers suggesting Margarine are totally unacceptable.
These are Kosher Tortillas so pork products are totally unacceptable, No Bacon!

No because both lard and vegetable shortening are solid fats while oil of any kind is a liquid fat. You can't replace one for the other in a recipe. You can use butter or margarine instead to some extent though. But butter and margarine both have a lot of water in them, so there will be some difference. If the recipe also calls for water then just cut out a little bit of the water and add a slight bit more butter or margarine to offset that.

You need a solid fat to make tortillas....The only thing I can suggest is margarine...It will change the texture a bit...But I don't think you will notice too much............
