Is my computer good enough to play games?

I have a ATI Radeon 3000 graphics card, chip type 0x9616, DAC type: Internal DAC (400mhz), approx. total memory 2939 MB, current display mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60hz), monitor: viewsonic VA2231 series

I don't understand this information. I want to play GTA IV on it and I know this is a big game as far as system requirements.

Additional info: windows 7 premium 64 bit, installed memory 6.00 GB (5.75 usable), ADM phenom II X4 955 processor 3.20 ghz.

I don't understand any of this either. Please help! 5 stars for best answer!!!!

Hello, I've been looking into hardware components for the last few months, so I have a good idea of what you are using.

The problem with playing most games will be that the ATI HD3000 is not really a graphics card. It's more of a little chip that will handle the ''normal'' video processing, like surfing the web, playing videos, and older games.

As for the rest.. the CPU you've got is not really the best, but it should be able to play anything well, tuning up the game graphics nicely. Three GB of RAM-memory is.. not so much, but do-able, given you won't be running multiple programs at once. [These include passive virus-scans!] If so, you should be fine on that, too.

You could buy a new videocard, given your powersupply is big enough. I would recommend a power wattage of about 750 watt.

For a new videocard, there are two brands to chose from; ATI and nVidia. My experience with ATI is great, though nVidia cards are somewhat cheaper, so that's for you to decide. I'll give you a list of models, hope it might work.

    ATI:

HD 5770. [an aging, but powerfull model.]

HD 6850. [newer features, a little more costy, and a somewhat better gaming performance.]

HD 6970. [Simply top of the line, pricy, but.. well, you'll have a pro-gaming rig with one of those.]

    nVidia:

GTX 460. [Popular, reliable model. Relatively low wattage, and good but-not-best gaming experience.

GTX 470, 480.. etc. [For a little more dough, a little more performance. Depends on the budget, I guess.]

To start gaming, you NEED once of those thingies. They come at prices, but then again are some very advanced pieces of technology that will turn your pc into a solid gaming rig. The HD3000 can handle SOME stuff, but with a lot of stuttering even at low settings. GTA IV will not be pleasant to play.
