severe itchiness during pregnancy?

For a week or so now I've been getting itchier and itchier. It started out just on my hands and feet but now it's spread to almost everywhere on my body that is able to be itched. It's so bad that I've left scratch marks on my abdomen and breasts and my back and even woke up having scratched my thighs so hard that I not only left marks but drew blood. I haven't been to the doctor yet as my next appointment is scheduled for Tuesday and I've called so many times I feel like the most paranoid mother to be ever. I've tried benadryl, oatmeal baths, lotions, and the like and nothing seems to be working to stop my itchiness. Any suggestions or should I suck it up and call my dr.? Thanks in advance. Oh, and I'm 36 weeks pregnant with my first.

    Hi,

It sounds like cholestasis of pregnancy. I had it when I was pregnant. I had sucked it up until I was 37 weeks pregnant and finally told my doctor about it. She then told me that I needed to be induced right away because cholestasis is very uncomfortable, and they like to induce before 38 weeks. After I had given birth, it completely went away. I would call your doctor, just so they can test you and make sure you aren't in any danger. Better to be safe.

    Good Luck!

You need to talk to your doctor asap. This could be a serious thing. I recently developed a rash on my stomach and spoke to my doctor about it and she said the only concern in pregnancy is itching without a rash. Definatly get a hold of your doctor its better to be safe then sorry.

Sounds like ICP, you need to call your dr right away. Be persistant, some dr's don't take ICP seriously. Here's a website about it - http://www.minti.com/parenting-advice/224/Itchy-sk...
