Your opinion regarding religious symbols in public schools?
If there are a thousand people graduating in an auditorium which has a religious symbol, of any sort, and 1 of the thousand objects to said religious symbol, should said symbol be covered up or removed?
Or, should the symbol be allowed for the sake of tradition, and because the majority are in favor?

There should be no problem with it whatsoever. How thin-skinned ARE some of these people? If one is offended by a cross, don't look at it.
The Establishment Clause is misunderstood by a majority of the people in this country. To establish a religion is to make it the official state-sponsored one of a nation, like the Anglican church in Britain. The Founding Fathers had absolutely no intention of divorcing everything which has any religious overtone whatsoever from public life.

This is really a moot question. Most graduations are held in the high school auditorium or gymnasium. If not, it is often held in a hotel conference room. Nevertheless, there should not be any symbols there in the first place. The only place that normally has religious symbols are church related and public schools already know to avoid meeting in one of those. z

Well how would you feel if your christian child when to a school with hindu symbols all over the school?
I'm sure your child would feel alienated, and i doubt you would like it.
Why should the little hindu kid have to feel alienated looking at crosses and Jesus murals while he's in school?

Separation of church and state, as long as their is federal money going into schools the school can't promote religion or have religion in it's mandate.
If you want to religion in your studies you have to attend a private school, when there is tax payer money going to fund public education then the separation applies.
It's a really really simple concept. No mandated religion in the schools program, and contrary to popular belief this doesn't mean you can't pray in school. You can pray all you want, it just can't be school promoted.

No public schools will have religious symbols, so the question is moot.

When I was in elementary school (public, I remind you), we prayed and read a Bible story everyday. It did not affect the learning in the slightest.
Bring back the 10 Commandments.

It has no place there. A public school shouldnt spend my tax dollars on religous paraphenalia. If that student wanted to see crosses (or whatever) around campus than he/she would go to a religious school, not a secular one.

I don't think it should matter as long as they aren't teaching bible study and since when is this a Christian Nation anyway,

The Liberals hope that if they say "separation of church and state" enough times people will assume it means something other than that the state cannot harass churches.

I want my kids to learn of faith from my choice. We go to a bible believing protestant church.
