Is your glass half empty or half full?

I am doing a speech for speech class on "Making a Difference." My speech will be along the line of asking, is your glass half empty or is your glass half full. Is there anyone out there with some ideas for content and theme?

    Hey,

you just had to ask this question. =0)

I guess Kant is the correct person to site for your question. Kant right guys? It's been awhile since I've been in school.

Kant doesn't believe that we are capable of seeing something as "it really is." We see something and then we categorize it somewhere in our mind.

Is the glass half empty or half full? The glass of water is neither. Every time you see something it's like your throwing a blanket over it and putting it away somewhere in your head.

All of the things I'm about to say is valid, but it doesn't mean that the glass of water "is" that.

    The glass is half empty

    the glass is half full

the glass is making me thirsty

The glass with water in it is old.

The glass with water in it is new.

    The glass is pretty.

The glass is identical to the one i have.

These are all just examples of how I can categorize that glass of water. All these examples are valid none are more valid then the other.

Did I get that right philosophers? If not, sorry, its 130 AM.

You could say something about how people who see the glass half empty aren't necessarily looking at life in a negative way. You could say how they are trying to get the most out of life by having a full glass...I don't know really, that probably didn't help. xD

Usually, my glass is 1/2 full. I like it on the full side. When my glass gets 1/2 empty, i search for something to fill it back up again to comfortable levels.

Glass half empty people may not be the depressive ones. Their glass is half empty because they have gone out to do something about their live, whilst glass half full is someone who doesn't take life with both hands.

Usually half empty is pessimistic and half full optimistic.

Depends on if I've been most recently drinking it or filling it up. If I filled it up half way, it's half full; if there was more in the glass and I drank it down to half way, it's half empty.

    The glass is 100% full.

It depends on our own sensitivity how much we perceive in it.

The only thing we can change is our own attitude, how we perceive reality.

My glass is both, depending on my mood, the news and my physical pain level.
