Large red winged butterfly?

It was fairly large, spread out probably about the size of a CD. It had red double wings (the 2 part wings on each side) and it had some sort of white or other colored thin-lined pattern on them. It had a huge body, about the size of a cicada. I found it in Ohio, can anyone help me figure out what it was?

Update:

The body was red too. I went back to get a picture, but couldn't find it

To be that big and that red, I can only guess a Saturniid moth, perhaps a Hyalophora sp. Here's one:

It was most likely a moth.

    Here's how to tell,

    - If the wings were kept folded Up, it was a butterfly.

    - If the wings were spread wide open, it was a moth.

My guess would be a giant silkmoth. It is the largest moth in North America. Commonly mistaken fir a butterfly.

The caterpillar of this moth is even more spectacular. An extremely large meaty body. 3.5 inches long and 1 inch diameter! The head of the caterpillar has black mace-like spikes on top of Yellow and Baby Blue spiked balls! Absolutely incredible!
