Would it be disrespectful to wear dream catcher earrings?
I have been reading about cultural appropriation (sp?) and most of the articles said that random people wearing things like headdresses is disrespectful towards traditions of certain tribes (which makes sense), but I didn't see anything about wearing Native American jewelry like dream catcher earrings. I was just wondering if I could get some opinions on it, preferably from someone who knows what they are talking about.

Not disrespectful. Down right silly. Dream catchers aren't jewellery.....you won't find any actual Natives wearing them.....but you will find us laughing at the non-Natives who do. Odds are, when you purchase them, they were manufactured in China, not by NA's. A dream catcher is the equivalent of a small child's mobile. That is what they were used for........So go ahead. Jump right on that bandwagon. You won't be the only one on it.

What Ajidamoon said (that girl is so often right on target!)
Yeah, we just think it is silly. People take elements of native culture totally out of context and use them in weird ways. Ok, whatever.

You have to be careful. Since American Indians were here before White Americans, you MUST respect their culture. If you think it might be offensive, DON'T DO IT.

Maybe, that's no reason not to do it anyways.
