Advise for updating a resume?
I'm helping a friend update his resume. He is 19 and an apprentice panel beater applying for another panel beater apprenticeship. In his employment history, there was a time when he held two jobs in 5 months, each lasting only a couple of months. My question is do I include those two jobs, or leave a 5 month gap in his employment? what ill look better to potential employers?

- KatLv 510 years agoA 19 year old usually doesn't have much work experience so it's better to do what's known as a functional resume. Example; NAME is sixe 18 to 26 point so they'll remember it Address Phone E-mail address OBJECTIVE This is where you put what type of job you are seeking Example: Seeking a panel beater apprenticeship with (business name) where my knowledge of cars and my strong work ethic will benefit both the business and customers. KEY STRENGTHS Highlight your skills and qualifications. Keep it to no more than three and use descriptive action words that are appropriate for the job. Examples: Task-oriented and efficient, not afraid of long hours, hard work and customers who want that extra touch. EDUCATION Name of high school, city and state, year graduated SKILLS / AWARDS List any relevant skills such as foreign languages you can speak, proficiencies with computer programs, or handtools if the job is outdoor-related. You can also list any awards you won recently that show your character Another option in the skill section is to make a two-columnm chart. The left side should be labled: Your Requirements, the right Column should be labeled my Qualifications For example; REQUIREMENT QUALIFICATION Profiency with metalworking techniques Two years of experience with welding equipment, planishing, hydralic devices, etc Be safe Two years of training in safety guidelines and use of appropriate protective gear ???? Two months experience with (list skill or activity) Your friend can figure out what skills and qualifications he gained from his smaller hobs and list them into this format Work flexible hours / I have my own car and no other demands on my time except... Be a team player / Two years of playing high school basketball Show up on time / Worked two years on college newspaper where making deadlines was crucial. REFERENCE UPON REQUEST
- 10 years agoAvoid a chronological format in the resume. Go for a functional format that focuses on skills, qualifications, and the like.
- kLv 710 years agoYour friend should list EVERY job he has had - no matter how short. Employers like to know you have been something, rather than sitting around doing nothing.
- Anonymous10 years agojust make it plain and clear, specify your strengths and avoid unfavorable experiences or skills to the job you want to apply on
