Do you have to mow city property in front of your house?

We have a strip of land in front of the sidewalk in front of our house and my friend won't mow that part of the lawn. It is used to hold fire hydrants, mail boxes, basketball goals, etc. So I'm just curious, does he have to mow it?

You would have to find out the particular ordinances where you live. It would be best to contact someone from your city in charge of that if it's an issue, for instance the sidewalk in front of my house is borough property but I am responsible for clearing it of snow and ice in the winter because if someone gets hurt I am liable. Insane isn't it.

This is interesting. I'll bet that esplanade/parkway/strip of grass is actually part of the property, but there's an easement that allows the city to put street lights, fire hydrants, utility lines, etc., on and under it. Mow the grass. It won't take much time and it will make your place look better.

Are you talking about the parkway -- the area of land between the sidewalk and the curb? Even though it is city property, it's the homeowners/tenant's responsibility to keep it mowed and watered.

The property by the road belongs to the city or the county.

We and everybody in our neighborhood and all the areas cut the grass. It makes it look better and bugs, mosquitoes and things can not live in the grass if it is cut. Our mailboxes and the things you named off are there. We use it we should cut it. Do not think it is a law to have to cut it.
