I started collecting social security when I turned 62. Do I need to sign up for Medicare when I turn 65?

You will automatically be enrolled in Medicare at 65 within 90 days of your birthday. You do have to choose which type of plan you want, Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage but that will be explained in the book they mail you, or you can go to the website and find out. After you decide which type of Medicare plan you want you have to choose an insurance company who contracts with Medicare and those will be indicated in the book in your area. You have to choose a Part D plan under Original Medicare, so choose one that covers whatever meds you use. Your monthly Medicare premium will be deducted from your Social Security check. I dont know what the premium will be in 3 years but for new enrollees this year it is $115 and up depending on other circumstances.
